I have read that Hunter Holmes has speed but not great skills as yet. Speed is vital in the modern game and cannot be taught, so it is a good starting point.

Retaining the ball especially by kicking is vital, If he can't kick it good now then I would pass.

I'm not disputing that he turned into a good player, I'm saying he didn't show much of anything at all with us when he was delisted.

We're comparing 21 year olds being delisted not the guy who played 60 games for west coast in his mid 20s.

Probably what similar to what he offered as a forward at vfl level. A position in which he made the vfl team of the year squad.

Clohesy came 2nd in the vfl bnf and made the vfl AA squad in his first year. Rumour on the west coast board was that eagles offered him a 3 year contract.

Jamaine Jones claim to fame was that he laid an above average number of tackles while kicking a below average nunber of goals.

The only way i can understand delisting Ted ahead of Wiltshire is if Ted asked to be so he could go west.

West Coast gave Jones 5 years and 59 games. They saw plenty in him but ultimately he wasn't good enough. I'd bet good money Clohesy does no better than him.

He's a great trier and gives his absolute all. But ultimately he's very limited with his lack of skills with the ball and lack of athleticism.

Ok he may well end up in the same place, like pretty much all rookies, but the comparison to jones still doesn't make sense to me. People can disagree on it, it's a free country

Kicking is not the only skill. It usually starts with the ability to get the ball.

I haven't watched Hunter play at all. So I have no idea whether his skills are up to scratch. But players who've finished all their junior development and are objectively seen to have average skills would surely be a very low priority when it comes to drafting.

I accept that there are plenty of players who improve their decision-making once they're drafted. But I can't think of too many who've greatly improved their skills after making it to the big time. And I think this is magnified even further when you consider a player's kicking repertoire at junior level. After all, the opposition you'll face is only going to get better as you ascend into senior footy. If you haven't routinely kicked it well at junior levels, I can't see how the suffocating pressure of AFL footy is going to bring out the best in your kicking game.

So if Hunter isn't shaping as a good to great kick now, I seriously doubt he's going to start ratcheting up his output in that area once he's in the AFL system. And as his brother showed us in the GF, if you can't match breakaway speed with an ability to hit targets, all the pace in the world won't stop the ball regularly going back over your head at a serious rate of knots.

Which means that if the stories of Hunter's 'average skills' are true, I'd be running a mile (at Max's top speed).

Clohessy was switched to a Cat A rookie a year or so ago, so we have 1 Cat A rookie spot free with Ted going

We've also got 1 Cat B rookie spot free with Mullin being upgraded and Burke taking up the other

Right that makes sense. So assuming we re-rookie Stevens and KMF we have 2 picks at the draft, 1 at the rookie draft (plus the 2 re-signings) and 1 category B.

I'm guessing Mellor in the ND and Rongdit cat B too so it probably goes a senior level draftee and a rookie.

If Wiltshire is delisted it then becomes 3 national draft picks and if Bews turns down the reported contract offer it becomes 4

The 2nd Cat B spot could potentially be for Rongidt if we nominate him as an NGA selection and he gets through the draft

I would have thought Stanley, Bews or even Conway as potentially better options

I get it could be a big risk with Conway if he finally comes good, but I would have looked at it please as an option where he's contracted for the next two years and if he was on the rookie list next year it's with the idea of taking the pressure off him to get back on the park in 2026, instead using the year to get his body right

I was expecting to see something horrific in his kicking not the case straight lines the ball too! and better still finds his own footy I'd take him on that.

I don't think that's quite right. Unless I've missed something I'm pretty sure it's:

2 senior list spots free (Duncan, Guthrie, KMF and Stevens out with Worpel and Mullin in).

2 cat A rookie list spots free but committed to selecting Stevens and KMF (Ivisic and Retschko out)

2 Cat B rookie spots free (Mullin and Clohesy)

Either mullin or clohesy was a cat a rookie this year (the club didnt announce which) so we will have a cat a rookie spot free i think as Ted is delisted and mullin will elevate to senior list).

To be fair Ted is a small mid or a hf and we have too many small mids (see Atkins Clark bruhn etc) and hes not getting in ahead of our 4 small forwards so he had no future here. I hope another club takes him though he could be a decent role player

He’s one touch which was my stand out from watching his highlights. And has a reasonable inside game to go with his obvious outside speed.

Kicking on the run needs tidying up. Kicking from a stationary position not too bad. Reasonable technique.
