2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

I've got my doubts about Worpel but I do like the defensive side of his game (especially in comparison with Tom Mitchell)

Worpel can run and does run hard defensively he just kicks poorly. Mitchell cant cover the ground defensively anymore.

The guys in our range..
Marsh
Dovaston
Taylor
Hibbins Hargraves
Barker
Ludowyke

..and a lot of kids tied to clubs in the 20’s…..

Ludowyke might slide thu. Like Barker coming off an knee. Compared to Cadman… Probably take 3 years to put some muscle on him ..so that would dissuade some clubs.

Mitch Marsh sliding to 17 on the latest from CalT…. wonder what the go is ….. Seems the type that could develop into something other that a forward…. Good 2K and vertical jump. Could see him developing into a mid at afl level.. Still think he will be gone by our pick

Marsh sliding i think would be bad news for us. Draft best available is a good policy but what would we even do with a third medium forward behind Henry and Polk?

No for Marsh from me. Hes ok but I dont think hes a genuine mid at the next level and the last thing we need is a 3rd tall fwd when we are struggling to fit henry and polkinghorne in already. We either need a kpf (depending on how long you think Cameron goes for and whether neale ends up in the ruck) or we need genuine mids. If a kpf someone like ludowyke would appeal otherwise i would prefer someone who will be a good mid at the next level like robey but he goes early now. Small forwards and medium forwards are the 2 things we absolutely dont need.

Tbh that list emphasises my lack of enthusiasm about this pool-theres a lack of top end class prospects and the depth isnt there. I think a few mature age state league guys go this year off the back of it. Us only having 2 picks limits what we do (obviously we dont rate this pool which is why we kept a lot of fringe guys). I would try to trade 19 into next year if we can get a decent offer (we probably wont though). If we keep it someone like Barker or Taylor is probably who I expect (Lindsay wont get through to us).

I'm a big believer in taking the style of player appropriate at the pick. Everyone else is going to take the good key forwards and generally the good mids before we have a pick. We should be looking for a classy ball user that can start off half back and develop into a midfielder in time ala Cam Guthrie. Those type of players will be available at 20. Zero chance a good key forward will be.

Well it just as well its not up to you or I … to pick. Id would just take the one I think has the most upside..no matter the role he has played till now. Marsh has good size and stamina.. and would have the ability to run (which seems to be one of our KPI) … Pick the best talent or the one we think has the best upside ..as based on need then we may as well just pick a ruck..although adding another junior ruck probably makes little sense. Lindsay may be gone , shame he is not bigger.

I would not exclude the chance of trading into next year either...

Let the best player elevate to be selectable… Henry has show ability at the level but has work to do ..Polk has not played a game yet … so Id not be fussed over who is on our list … If we thought he was the best player available.

Could we trade pick 19 and 40 to Brisbane for 17 and 44? Because they will use their first round pick on Annable and would be able to get the same result and advance one of their picks 4 picks and we move forward 2 in the first round.

Of that crop, I'd just be going with Oskar Taylor at this point if he's available.

We're not going to get access to one of the premier mids, and the key forwards are okay, but not leagues above someone like Hetherton who we could get later on, or even what Molier and Polk are showing in the VFL so far.

Go the kid with elite speed and skills, and best case Lappin & Co turn him into Errol Gulden, and worst case he's just like having a second Humphries off half back.

Similar to what Hamingja mentioned earlier, but it's almost futile going with an out and out mid at our pick.

You're only really getting the Lang, Stephens, and Knevitt types in that range, and it's a similar story with the key forwards.

Our best action is taking one of the best flankers in the draft IMO, and seeing if we can build them into a mid like Guthrie, Holmes, Day, Richards, Dawson, etc.

Raw traits that transfer to AFL level over pure positional need.

Other than a list spot and some cheap $$ What else is he taking up?

23 year old 206cm bloke with skills and rotten injury form thus far in a position we are horrendous at.

I’ll wait for him longer ..

Go Catters

I would have a mature age ruckman in his spot, at least they can play games
