We're usually on a similar page, Bob. And there's no doubt he's the best-performed kid in the draft. But for me he doesn't project as the best senior player. Plus we have Lalor, Smillie and McAuliffe, so he's not a need either.
McAuliffe looks promising however he's not an established player and smilie is yet to play a game. Best available at 3-4 it should be as im sure it will.

Think the differing mentalities about draftees between posters comes down to a difference in philosophy. High skill floor vs High skill ceiling.

I rate Sharp as the 6th best non-academy player in the draft. He absolutely has his strengths, and probably has one of the highest skill floors in the draft class but I worry about his skill ceiling. He will be a solid 200 game player.

I'm wanting us to go big with our picks this year. High upside. I rate Robey at #2 and Grlj at #3 for that purpose. Robey could become similar to Bont, and Grlj could become similar to Butters.
Exactly my thoughts.

The other thing is that the Sharp midfield archetype is more easily acquireable if we do need one of them down line. They can be traded for pretty cheaply as clubs can only play or at most 2 at a time or you can turn player existing players into that defensive minded, first possession midfield role. Guys like Ross, and Mcauliffe can be moulded into that type of player, maybe even Hopper if all of Smillie, Lalor, Hoton, Robey (?) surpass him A defensive minded first possession midfielder is not as valuable as forward half impact and tackle breaking type player.

It’s also a massive risk. Take the safe bets in CDT and Sharp

It's a great point, you'd have to think if Thredgold was available with our pick in 30s we'd take a serious look at him
Miller just turned 26yo FFS. Balta is a month younger. They’ll be the same age as Steven May is now in 2032.

I agree we need to plan for the future, but if we aren’t planning on being in serious flag contention well before 2030, let alone 2032 then I’ll start following Storm.

LOL 0.07 seconds is absolutely nothing and 100th of a second might be a nose
footy smarts more than cover that and i would suggest atleast 50% of our list would be as slower or slower
When most footy players fit in a 0.3 range from 2.90 to 3.20, 0.07s is significant

The 2 players with the most chance of making 200+ game players inside the top 5 open draft are
Sharp & Cummings and for the life of me cannot see why we would over look them and considering Kellaway is on the cards later in the draft then the Trifecta of the 3 x SA boys just makes so much sense
Let’s not forget Taranto was pick-2. And he’s a very good player and has been superb for us. Is Sharp another TT? 200+ games and ultra reliable … but not sure it’s what you want to spend pick-2 on ?

A guy that won a B & F in a stacked GF team at age 21? Would hate one of them. 🤣🤣

Even better if we can find one that uses the footy better.

No need to draft for next year? Try telling that to the senior players who are just going to benignly bow out over the next 3 or 4 years.

As I mentioned I don't believe our reset is so far away. Lynch if he remains injury free pretty much has still plenty to offer. He is not like Jack who lost his spring, his no.1 asset to compete. Jack did not have the strength or pace to play like Cameron for example, who at 32 is still a good player. Lynch relies on his strength and marking, and he is about no.1 in the league with that combination. So he is still around for a couple of years where our young forwards will be developing.

Vlastuin is not going anywhere for 2-3 years, Broad has Trainor waiting for his place. Balta, Gibcus and Miller have loads of footy left.

So what we need is to revamped our midfield over the next two season. Lalor fit is going to be a gun. Hotton looks much the same. McAuliffe is ready. Smillie should be a bonus next year. These players are not 5 years away. With protection from our senior mids, and in combination with them, our midfield will be much better starting next season.
Fmd Lynch wrestling with ooponents is not a strength, its the reason why his limit is now a goal a game
