2 eps to go in Monster.

Haven't particularly enjoyed how they've worked the inspiration for the other horror movies into the script.

It feels like they really didn't have 8 eps worth of content on Gein.

also watched the perfect neighbour. probably some of the most wrenching doco footage i've ever seen amongst that. it's very poignant. it is though also documenting the inherent inanity of neighbour disputes, probably one of the more exhausting things you can observe. i always find myself wanting to separate the documentary from getting swept up in the case, not let any feelings of the crime, or conclusion to the crime cloud the piece of art someone has made. the documentary has probably done its job if i feel frustrated about hearing two different groups of people whining.

Starting 5.

I’m not an NBA fan but I’ve got to say they do amazing jobs of putting together documentaries.

I hadn’t heard of a couple of the guys as I don’t follow the sport but I have to say I get so sucked into following their stories.

Love it, I wish the AFL could do documentaries the same quality as NBA and NFL.

Yes, I get that. Didn't make it any less frustrating to watch.

Idk what is frustrating about it?

Flight 93 the movie about 911 shows the chaos of chaos and that’s based on real events.

I liked it because it showed how how even the best laid plans are fraught with the human element

I think the biggest gripe was the ending. But that also gave clues as to what the outcome was being Doomsday

Each to their own. I thought it was awful. Admittedly I don't care much for anything American.

This review sums it up perfectly imo

Best recent watch (movie): It's What's Inside

Worst, avoid at all costs, why did I keep watching to the "end"? (Series): The Society. 🤢🤮

On the flip side here’s a positive review

All good, it’s what makes art great and this one has struck a chord. I’d rather have debates over this than the latest Mission Impossible shit

Started Boots and have been struggling recently to just sit down and watch television unless it's YouTube or garbage TV but this one grabbed me. Good start.
I watched while i was travelling for a work trip recently.

Nice easy watch with some really good characters.

The new documentary about Aileen Wuornos, the serial killer, was an interesting one. The POV of the documentary was definitely sympathetic to Wuornos and tried to paint her as a victim more than a killer. There's no doubt she had a terrible and hard life that all contributed to what she became. There's no new information here, just an attempt to be sympathetic to Wournos, even though the woman herself admitted she lies constantly. Take that as you will.

Her (very ugly) lesbian girlfriend also had a big role in what happened, and Wournos protected her by taking the rap. The prosecution and the courts likely exploited her, and she probably didn't receive a fair trial. But, in the end, she did murder those men, and not all of them were trying to rape/kill her. So, as much as I feel sorry for her terrible life, I do feel she got what she deserved in the end.

aileen: queen of the serial killers

not sure i've watched a more inconsequential documentary. there's not much to redeem it, there's not much that is new and whatever angle the documentary maker is looking for is undone by aileen admitting to lying though much of what she said happened to her will be true. it seems to work best as a depiction of the complete and utter pointlessness of human existence.

aileen's 'mum' was the most interesting part for me. it is a weird thing but mutually beneficial and as much as i hate the god angle, i have to respect her taking on the dog from the pound that was going to be put down.

i've long thought that aileen will eventually get the 'monster' series treatment, there's plenty of chances to add a human element to the killer here like they wanted to do with dahmer or gein. her murders aren't particularly spectacular compared to others but the series will be able to wallow around in her formative years and life on the road.
