2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

Could we not match a bid in the 50s?

No because if we take players at 19 and 40 then we wouldn't have any senior list spots left ala the saints with Hoffman last year once they took Patrick said. We would have to take mellor at 40 or take the risk him being taken at the back of the ND because we have limited senior list spots (due to not delisting or rookieing more fringe guys).

A few clubs are delisting with a re rookie promise.. do clubs view this draft that badly?? That they don’t want to use list spots on it?? And does re rooking a senior listed player reduce his salary?? If so… pretty low act for second year kids
Each club must select 3 players in the national draft - shifting Stevens and KMF frees up the extra picks, I assume Sydney are doing similar

Rookie upgrades count as a pick. Given Mullin is being upgraded, we have only two open senior list spots for live picks, plus a rookie spot, plus a Cat B rookie spot.

Hunter Holmes says playing with his brother is “the dream.”

I have a bit of a different view around this, I would happily draft him to increase the likelihood that Max remains a long-term Cat.

He’s next OOC at the end of 2028 and seems highly likely to be getting Nasiah-like offers elsewhere. I also think there’s a good chance he’s captain by then but as we’ve seen with Oscar Allen, even that doesn’t guarantee you’ll stay.

Hunter clearly has some AFL level traits and if we can develop him over the next couple of years - bearing in mind Max went from project player to star in around 50 games - and having him on the list increased the chance of Max staying, I’m 100% in.

I’d happily take him at 19. A bit of a reach but not ridiculous. Think Hunter’s upside is large.

Given how shit this draft supposedly is, this quote has bumped him from rookie to our pick.

His athletic profile is very good as well and he has a high ceiling

I wouldn't but I accept people will have differing opinions on this.

Have us picking Jevan phillipou…. Yuk.

Strikes me as one of those safe pick mids who has had a lot of attention and exposure who is around that 20-30 ish mark that doesn’t go anywhere once on an AFL list. Reminds me of a Darcy lang type.

Keen on Harley barker with our pick or Mitch marsh.

Reckon barker ends up being an A grade HB flanker at the next level
Jevan isn’t a safe pick mid, he’s more of an upside pick imo. Wouldn’t be my preference tho.

Still in contention
No ruck depth
Further elite outside mid speed- not a fan of Stephenson? I know him well, and he's a forgotten talent that just might have seen the penny drop, finally. And he's a great young man.
He was playing in the div below my local club this season. Would be miles off AFL. If he’s serious about playing AFL again he’d need to go play consistent footy in the VFL first.

We have had a much better hit rate at the draft when targeting traits over production. Happy for them to take a chance on Hunter if they think he’s got upside. Max was picked for his athletic traits too. Only played a handful of games at 18s.

He's not exactly a low key player already having his own article on the front of the afl website. Would be surprised if he slips to 19.

I don't watch the U18s closely, but not one mock draft or ranking I've seen has him anywhere near the first round.

I think he's just getting a little bit of press because his brother is a gun, and he might well go higher than he would otherwise for the same reason, but I strongly doubt first round.

My early prediction for the draft is that we field offers for 19 and ultimately trade down to a pick that still is going to secure Holmes to us but gives us more draft capital for next year.
My early prediction is actually trading up the order to around pick 12-15 and get back something also in 30’s/40’s
Something like 19 and FR1 for
Pick 12-15 and 35
