If Mccarthy continues his 2025 form combined with the addition of Starcevich/Young and natural improvement from Allan/Grego/Maric potentially Duursma at HB can't see Duggan being best 22 for the entire year.

Snake as skipper with Baker and Ginbey VC's

I'd be red hot for Skipper Snake but his track record for availability is a bit too patchy I reckon.

Snake vice is a must though. Bleeds Blue and Gold. Will challenge his teammates to improve and invest.

For the record, I actually voted for Duggan.

I reckon he can turn it around after a rough year and if the club back him in to be solo skipper it would be huge for the guy. He deserves some clear air without having to pretend Oscar Allen was doing half the work.

Back him innnn.

For 2025 it was Duggan and Allen as co-captains, Gov as BC and Waterman, Baker and Graham rounded out the leadership group

Obviously, Allen and McGovern are gone

Captain for 2026 should be one of Duggan, Waterman or Baker. My leaning would be Duggan(c) with the other two as joint vice captains as I think it’d be nice to see Duggan given a crack as standalone captain

That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to step aside to allow for fresh leadership

Wouldn’t be surprised if Starcevich is automatically added to the leadership group with Graham with Hough and/or Ginbey promoted as well.

It’s a very defender heavy group but I can’t see anyone else being either worthy or ready to be given that responsibility.

Whoever is picked. The opinion of people outside the club based on a players form, or external perceptions, isn't worth a fart in the wind. If they printed off this thread to aid in the decision, it could only be because they had the shits, and ran out of toilet paper.

Wow opinions of footy fans about the club they support on an online forum don't factor into said clubs decision making?

I'm baffled, shocked, bewildered! we all were under the impression that the poll we voted in was for the actual captaincy of the Eagles in 2026.

Any more earth shattering insights for us?

Should be Baker. There's a chance we run with dual captains again as Duggan is better with the media.

Why not include Harley in the leadership group to give him some added responsibility. In 3-4 yrs time it could be his team to captain.

I'm not putting Harley anywhere near the leadership group just yet. Step 1 will be to come back in shape.

Good point, i see Ginbey/Hough as the standout candidates at this stage.

If Harley can put together a full year of team first footy certainly add him in. He's a touch undercooked at the moment for a leadership role, can lose focus and get emotional quickly. One more year and then get him in.

Given how earth shattering it is for most on here to find out their opinions don't matter, Im not sure we can risk more than one such revelation per year. There is only so much the soul can take.

Shouldn't be Duggan as he shouldn't be in the team if everyone is fit, but there are literally no other choices other than Yeo, Waterman and the 2 ex Richmond.

Yeo too injury prone. Waterman could probably say the same, which leaves Duggan, Baker, Graham.

Jake cptn for me, good speaker ,can lift players with how he plays.
Natural leader who commands respect.
Missed a fair bit of footy which will probably go against him.
If not JW , Baker would b my second pick

Yeah premiership captain hurn was famed for his oratory….

Fair - Hurn and Glass before him were not loud and gregarious types but they were 'when they speak, people listen' types and were highly unlikely to ever put a foot wrong when completing media duties.
It is something Baker will need to work on because at the moment, he comes across as a bit of a 'yeah-nah THE BOYS! LADS! LADS! LADS! yewwwwww!' type which is not going to cut it when fronting the media after a 10 goal loss to Tasmania.

I'm not a big Duggan fan, but he seems the obvious choice, one of the few original Eagles remaining with club history and experience in his back pocket. Presents well at pressers, sounds like a captain/leader, has a physical presence on field.

Would leave Jake to ply his trade and not be bothered with captaincy. (same goes with Harley). Others can be leaders, Baker, Jake, Graham, Yeo, Ginbey, maybe Starcevich. This, presuming Duggan is an automatic inclusion each week - who knows what Mini and the preseason throws up?

Yeah but id like to see dugg get back to his best as a player.

Gone backwards as a captain, wasnt so long ago he was one of our best week in week out

He still is, certainly in the clubs opinion

On here less so, but that’s not unusual

C: Duggan
VC: Baker, Waterman
Leadership group: Graham, H.Reid, Ginbey
Waterman and Baker as co captains, Waterman can handle the media duties and the organize the forward line and
Baker can look after the other lines further up the field.
Having a dump kicker as captain doesn't set a great example for the rest of the team.
