Twomey on Gettable reckons clubs shouldn't reach with early picks. Richmond should take Robey and reckons that he compliments Lalor and is also a different type of player to Smillie.
Robey is more Lalor than Smillie. In fact besides being tall, SMill and Robey have eff all in common IMO

This is word for word what Cal said 🧐

Changed my vote from Cumming and Grlj to Sharp and Grlj.

I feel like Grlj is a must even though we typically don't draft for needs. We need speed and considering Blair said as much when he was asked about missing out on Malcolm Rosas Jr, it seems clear to me it's a priority.
Sharp is the most consistently well performed out of the entire draft class over the past few years. So much so I was hearing great things about him two years ago.

I'm not a Robey hater by any means, really impressive kid and can already tell he will be a future captain somewhere by the way he carries himself.
I'm just a bit nervous about him coming from the clouds like he has and burning a high pick on him with the lack of exposed form compared to someone like a Sharp.

Ultimately, I'm happy with any 2 of the 3.
If CDT is available then I have NFI what I would do lol.

Should we trade 4 for say pick 15 to pick up a defender?
if we are taking a defender whats the difference

its more likely a defender in the teens becomes a gun of the comp going off draft history . taking defender , tall forwards and ruckman in top 5 is lunacy

What would Twomey know.

Not sure how desperate our 'Need for speed' really is and is it worth reaching what could be 5-6 spots
We have added Retschko and could add another with #38 ( Holmes / Le Ray or another player) giving us more outside speed and there is also next 2-3 years and free agency to attain the 'needs' types.

I think we just have to select the best available talent at our picks and if we have multiple players around that range and a trade opportunity arises to gain extra assets then consider it.

cal also mentioned today that if Richmond traded back Grlj could slide to the 10's

I agree with Ruckman thats a no no in my book.
This years draft is just full of ? marks.

Its is, but so are most years.

last year whilst considered deep, apparently had not stars, 12 months is a long time in footy and last years draft could be one of the best ever.

Would be happy with any combo of Robey, CDT, Sharp with our current picks.

I like Grlj a lot, but 4's a bit early for him. Hopefully both Essendon and Melbourne really want whoever's left at 4 and we can slide it out a bit and still take him.
Don’t agree with the view that it’s too early on GrlJ. It’s not as though there’s a standout screaming pick me at 4.
You look at upside and needs and accept he ticks as many boxes as anyone else in this range

Id say there's a clear top 4 in terms of talent. Its just if we value the need over talent.

We're debating over kids who would be hard pressed to land in the top 10 last year though.
The only player of this year who could stake a claim because of his year is Sharp.
Wish to god this years was nearly as good.

Maybe, but I look at it this way, if you’re critiquing players in that say 4-8 range, you can find deficiencies in all their games
Sharp, Cumming, Taylor etc…
Grlj looked very good to me playing for our 2s. Had no issue with physicality of VFL v Coates, and showed dare off hb/wing. I think at the very least you are getting a hb/wing with elite speed/endurance at best developing into a mid with those qualities
I’m taking that.

This is why I rate him at 4 for us. I just dont think Essendon does so if we can get something for it and still get Grlj, let's do it

Twomey also said he thinks Sharps range starts at essendon, and that essendon could offer 5 & 6 for 2 & 13 with interest in mids as well as CDT. (Assuming Robey)
