Im not sure Id call it a farce. Richmond would be making clubs pay up which is what the AFL wants. Clubs matching would be giving up a fair bit.

People forget the suns traded heavily into this draft to get picks to match. They arent matching with their natural 1st alone. They started the trade period with 3 1sts.
Brisbane will need to use 2 late 1sts and be wiped from the draft.
Carlton will need to use the compensation they got for TDK for Dean.
Id say those clubs are still doing reasonably well but not a farce.

No club will do something that isn't in their self interest, and there's maybe five players in this draft that would be worth giving up two firsts for.
Why would you assume the Crows are going to be top four again? Absolutely no guarantees that they won't go back to being a mid table team, with their midfield issues.

Brisbane have added 5 players to their list that are top 5 prospects in the last few years at a massive discount, and they have won the last 2 flags , the good news is that Gold Coast have done the same, actually better
2 of the best 5 players in the comp ( Daicos and Darcy ) and a bloke who at 20 yrs has 2 norm smiths have been added to afl lists for peanuts, and no other club has had a chance to get them to their clubs, and you reckon they have done reasonably well?
The draft was meant to equalize the competition, but the team that finished second last gets the seventh best player in that draft, how do you reckon that is going?

Historically, clubs have not traded out high draft picks (live). It just doesn’t happen. All this talk is great for BF but simply doesn’t happen in real life. And imo, won’t happen this year.
And Brisbane and GCS are simply not paying true value for high end picks. Clubs would kill for high end picks and they have access to them for points that mean little other than academically. Having an academic assign points value to picks is not how those picks are truly valued historically. Those top 5 picks will very likely have excellent careers and these clubs get what is effectively exclusive access to them. It’s a sham and everyone knows it including AFL house.

Brisbane got Ashcroft x 2 and Fletcher under different rules. That was a farce. Doesn't mean the current rules are.
Also in general am struggling to feel sorry for you.
Tigers have won 3 flags in the last 8 years. Free agency rules helped you add Lynch after winning your 1st. Pinched Prestia from a struggling Goldcoast.
Then last year after finally falling down the ladder you clean up trading Bolton and Rioli. Got overs for Rioli mainly on the basis of GC having so much academy talent, they didnt need to play hard ball with picks. So indirectly benefited from the system.
There are clubs who have been hard done by. The Tigers arent one of those clubs.
We only really got Lynch from the free agency system but lost depth players along the way to that same system and had to shed players Ellis , CCJ , Higgins , Markov , Chol just to name a few.
Regarding cleaning up with players leaving well then Carlton have really cleaned up with the selections for Curnow , TDK ,SOS etc but it drags you to a place you need to come back from with picks that may be hit/miss
Now lets not forget where Richmond built that Dynasty team from at a time when GC/GWS gifted all the draft picks whilst Richmond were on the bottom and didnt even get #1 with Carlton getting a PP to take MK and Melb getting pick #2
Its been a hard road to get to the 3 flags as it will be again rebuilding
30 years without a flag can be very testing for the membership base as you well know

What does this look like?
Personally I hope we just keep our picks and pick the 2 guys we think are the best talents. Duursma's a given but whether its CDT, Sharp or Robey just pick whoever we rate most rather than relying on other teams. There will still be good players available at 13 too. Don't see any need to trade at all unless its significant overs

Well it would guarantee you
2 of Robey, Sharp, Cumming or X.Taylor
And likely 2 of the first 3 (As i think Tigers are locking in X.Taylor)
So if bombers traded up to get Sharp you wouldn't do the same trade. Twomey didn't sound convinced it will be CDT
