The whole point of a discussion board is to engage critically, we’re allowed to question the validity of ‘mail’ when it goes against everything reported so far, and point out his ‘track record’ was the heavily reported Rioli and Bolton deals. Also the source last year was someone working in the media team?

Again, very easy to read the tea leaves of already reported stuff, and make a bet on things occurring.

All mail is welcome, like you said prodigy (hang on I thought you quit this thread), it creates discussion, but part of the discussion will be fairly questioning the source.

I quit until November but I broke it to congratulate Michaels on his interviews with Robey and Taylor

Doubt it. I haven't seen the sheer class in disposal and decision making of those two. Nowhere near those two. Maybe Sam Powell-Pepper could be a better comparison (without disrespect to either SPP or Robey).
From what I’ve seen his disposal looks fine. But I’m YouTubing highlights and haven’t looked at disposal efficiency stats.
He looks to have a long penetrating kick .
And he’s only been in the system a short time, he hasn’t had the elite junior coaching that some of these kids have had over 3 + seasons.

Disagree with that, sample size isn't just from this season, we would have been looking at bottom age yr as well and then even their under 16s etc. The reality with Robey is he does have a very small sample size (25%) of his under 18s at the size he is now.

You do know he played 2 games less than cumming this year? Thats also ignoring the 5 senior games he played at Rowville seniors in the ENFL which has plenty of ex afl players running around.

I don’t think it’s lack of sample size. It’s probably more that a lot of the sample size was unremarkable. But finished with a bang.

Just because they were unnoticed doesn’t mean they were unremarkable. Jason Taylor (dees head recruiter) literally called eastern after his first game according to Lauren Moorecroft he was that good. Doesn’t surprise me because I was watching that game and he was very good forcing gippy to move Duursma onto him after HT to quell his influence.

Isn't Blair and co on the record saying that for us to trade out of either picks 3 and 4 we'd need a 'head turning' or 'outstanding' offer? Now we'll settle for a future second? (the same club that forced a future first out of Norf). If that's the case why haven't we just done a hand shake agreement and just do the deal already as apparently we are not interested in either Robey or CDT? That's assuming Essendon even needs to make a deal, if our plans are leaking to our supporters then no doubt they would be aware of them as well, and they can just sit pretty and wait for either CDT or Robey to fall into their hands for nothing.

Last year we were arguably the hardest club to get any intel on. This sounds like an Essendon wet dream to me.
yeah i was confused by the same part. bombers are picking after us, if we're not keen on the players they want they get to pick them. If we are keen on the players they want we pick them. why is a pick swap even happening? there's other ways to get a nothing pick next year without compromising on who we take in the top 5 this year.

Another factor is it might be great to have three Heeneys, as Dylan Alexander joked recently, but you also have to pay them.

Maybe the recruiters think Robey is Kmart Lalor, as I do.

Robey has a poorly controlled and tentative kick and handball, poor footy IQ. Stay away from the highlights. If you watch every disposal on the footy stuff YouTube channel there sure are a lot of poor decisions and a lack of situational awareness. Grlj is similar. People just get lured in by a physical beast, especially in a shallow draft.

Fair enough. He’ll be a good player, I just think we can do better.
It’ll gut me, if Robey ends up at the Bumbers and becomes the next Bont/Dusty. While we have gone down the safe/ reliable path.
Just on Dusty, Melbourne will forever regret taking Scully, Trengove ahead of the great man
that would suck but could quite easily end up the next stringer

Before last years draft, there was plenty of people desperate for us to get Jagga or FOS. In the end though, I think the same people would be happy with Hartley's decision to take Lalor. Similarly, many rated Armstrong well ahead of Faull. Now, most would agree that the order was correct (or very close at least).

I think, it'll be similar after this years draft. We're all desperate to get Robey, but is that just fan hype? Have we been fooled by the chat room propaganda? Blair is a genius with the draft. If he rates Sharp and Cumming ahead of Robey, as much as it hurts, I trust he's right.

Hey guys, I’ve got some good links inside the club and got some pretty strong intel today.

Firstly the club was really keen on Mal Rosas Jnr. He was actually really keen on us too. The club organised for him to go to dinner with MRJ and during the evening 6-7 times fans stopped and asked MRJ for a photo. Rosas asked MRJ if that’s normal and MRJ said as a Richmond player it happens all day every day. Rosas is introverted and quiet and said he didn’t know if he could handle that environment because it’s literally never happened on the Gold Coast and decided the anonymity of Sydney was going to be better for him, hence the decision to choose them.

We are very interested in a crop of Indigenous boys. We sent the KGI team to WA a couple of months ago to meet and spend time with them and we love a kid called Pickett. I expect he will be taken with whatever pick 38 ends up being. We are certain to use that pick on an Indigenous kid and will probably bid on some of the west coast academy players here if they haven’t been selected yet but Pickett is the kid we want.

The club loved what we did bringing players that had played together in last year and particularly the bond it has created amongst the kids at the club.

The plan is replicate that again this year but this time it will be with a batch of boys from SA.

Our hope is that WC take Dursma and CDT or Robey because we will be taking Sharp and Cumming at 3 & 4. We will take Sharp of the board with pick 3 immediately and then try to turn pick 4 into pick 5 with a trade with Essendon for them to take either CDT or Robey whoever the eagles don’t take. Our aim is to get a future 2nd and Essendons pick to help with our academy stuff next year.

We will then add Kellaway as a 3rd SA boy either with our final pick or by matching a late bid and we already have a deal in place with a club for a 2027 3rd or 4th rounder if we need any points to match the bid (but the club doesn’t expect this to be required as it’s likely in this draft Kellaway slides to rookie selection if we don’t take him)

Anyway my sources are always pretty good (check my history, I broke the news on the Bolton deal last season). Take it for what it is worth and obviously a bit of time for things to change but that’s what I know so far. (Also if u watch Gettable last week, Robey says tigers were the last team to show interest and my understanding is with Lalor and Smillie we don’t think he fits our list)

given we apparently dont want the players essendon want, why would they?
Until they suddenly become good and the the revisionists insist that we should have taken them instead of the players we did

do you mean you don't enjoy pages and pages of people likewhoring their unfunny gifs instead of actual discussion??

Frustrated World Cup GIF

Not quite sure I see the logic in Robey not fitting with Lalor and Smillie, but Cumming and Sharp do?

I think people get to wound up in every little detail when a rumour is posted especially when the player the majority of us want isn't included in the rumour. So, we then have to break down every sentence to convince ourselves it's not true. lol
There is probably more to it that just "not fitting in". I reckon the fact we didn't interview him until late and also; he has become a draft bolter probably lend more weight to this rumour if it was true.

If it turns out to be wrong, then so be it, a few of us can breathe a sigh of relief but if it ends up being 70% true then draft night is going to be a great read lol

That's the thing nothing has been "reported" it's just people's opinions :tearsofjoy:

Unlike other clubs our taps are dry when it comes to any possible leaks, thats what makes it amusing to me. I wonder how everyone would have reacted if he said Richmond have their sights firmly set on Robey and we want Eagles to not trade as they are most likely to pick CDT.

I reckon there would be less "validity" questions lol

This is great mail and all...
But it directly contrasts with what Twomey (the only journo who seemingly knows anything) said yesterday.

If I remember correctly, he said Sharp's range begins at Essendon
He was also talking about Essendon jumping up to pick 2 though, Riley said for CDT? and Twomey said no I wouldnt say that. Then went on a few minutes about Sharp and how Essendon needs mids.
