Next seasons surprise packet

A surprise packet springs up in many seasons. Someone who emerges from the pack to play regular AFL footy.

I’m going with Ramm. His form was good for the Magpies last season. Normally did a good shutting down big bodied sanfl forwards. He has an AFL ready body, is athletic, has good hands and his skills and decision making look pretty decent. Played a reasonable game when he debuted in the last game of the year. But there’s one proviso. It’s going to be hard for him to break into the firsts unless one of our 3 key defenders is injured.

Who’s your surprise packet and why.

I'll go with Corey Durdin. He has X-factor, pace and tackles hard. He looks genuinely rapt to be back home and at Port. Carr will give him the freedom to get upfield as well as close to goals, so he can find the ball and impact the game.

I think Carr will surprise a lot of the "experts" who've already written us off. If we can be on the plus side of the ledger by mid-season, anything's possible.

I can’t wait until late Feb-early March when 95% of pundits and fans have us finishing bottom 4 in their ladder predictions.

They all seriously think we’ll be nothing without Hinkley.

This is exactly what Kornes will do.

If we lose by a point to Brisbane at the GABBA then Kane will call for Carr to be sacked for it. But if we beat Brisbane at the GABBA by 10 goals then he'll argue about how unconvincing we were.

Richards surprised this year (finishing 4th in the Best & fairest) it will be interesting to see if he takes another improvement step in 2026. especially with Durdin as support.
Moraes surprised this year also (getting our best under 21year award) so he will be hungry to take another step in improvement next year.

I also hope that Tom Cochrane has a good year next year adding to his 3 games
