After watching me embrace golf over the last few months and get super enthusiastic about it, my 6 year old daughter asked if she could learn to play too.

So I bought her a little set from Golf Clearance Outlet and some pink golf balls and took her to the chipping/putting practice greens at Altona Lakes this weekend.

And she loved it. She wants to go every day. (Shame about the weather here in Melbourne this week).

Her hand-eye coordination is... not good. But her enthusiasm is fantastic and if she holds her interest I'm going to try and find some sort of clinic or program on this side of town for her to do more formally!

9 over 81 at Waterford Valley today after 3 putting the first two holes for bogies. Dam.
1 double for the day. Very solid for me.

Damn nice score!

So, handicaps...

As previously noted, I've only been playing the 9 holes at Altona Lakes as I ease my way into my new life as a hopelessly addicted golfer. I track my scores in the 'MiScore' app. I just put my handicap as 33 for the scoring purposes, but I've never actually gotten a handicap obviously.

I am starting to think I will play a more serious course soon - probably Mt Derrimut (but I'm open to suggestion of any public courses within a 30~min drive of Melbourne's inner-west).

If I want to actually get a proper handicap in the near future, is there something specific I should be doing now to facilitate that?

Appreciate the guidance, mates.

Id think public courses in your area would offer memberships which in turn allow you to submit cards and hence obtain a handicap. Enquire with them.

Alternative future golf (https://futuregolf.com.au/). Check them out. Membership there allows you access to heaps of courses!
