Bigger picture is we embarked on a mission to go into next year with clear air and to continue our rebuild. The priority is now developing the young players and Petracca was just another distraction.
Lol old mate mentions the bigger picture then talks about the immediate pain rather than the actual bigger picture. I love this place sometimes 😂

Speaking of distractions...If the club fair dinkum wanted to recommit to a rebuild then they should have delisted May.

What do you mean by this? If we delist him or play him in the VFL don't we have to pay him anyway? Or do you mean because if we delist him we have to replace him with another player and we can't afford to pay them in the cap?
Yep, apparently the extra year he got was on a pretty good clip, so to have that under the cap AND try to fill that spot (while also paying Clarry) would be too much. Plus, the financials of paying Clarry, Goodwin, King and the new assistants, and potentially two 'heads of footy' while struggling to negotiate Caulfield and possibly pay rent for Waverley would be way too much for an already financially poor club.

Doesn't really matter if he ends up playing at Casey next year.

Dynamic and powerful, Sam Cumming looks to be the prototype modern mid/fwd. As a forward Cumming has shown that he has the aerial strength to play the deeper, marking target as well as the endurance and running power to play as a high half forward. Through the midfield he can win his own footy and has the power to break tackles but is perhaps at his most damaging when able to get out on the spread, using his dash and penetrating kick to damage the opposition.

Two out of Robey (wishing, I know), Cumming, Nairn and Dovaston is my guess now for our first two picks.

*Late edit - Pickett as a good chance too, maybe even more so than the Dove.

I know highlights are just that - highlights.

But there’s a lot to like.

He looks like a right footer but used his left plenty of times and looked competent on it.

Good burst speed/acceleration.

Confidence in himself to take the game on and then also get out of trouble with some agility and hands.

His longer kicking hung it in the air a bit but he seemed to have good judgement with the weighting to leading forwards.

A bit was made of his overhead marking but that didn’t look abnormally good for an AFL player to me.

Some of that was against men too and he didn’t seem overawed.

I’d be happy if he came to the club.

Is there a bit of Gus Brayshaw in him? Does most things well without being spectacular?

They don't appear that similar as players, but I see what you're getting at.

Cumming is firming as my favourite for pick 7 from the little I've seen, but there's a lot of talk about that the Bombers will take him before we have the chance.

I love his energy around the contest, he seems to either get balls he has no real business getting to or bursting clear through congestion. He looks to use it well by hand and foot and kicks well for goal. I think he'd be fantastic in a similar role that Sparrow has played for us the last few years with him eventually looking to move in to the midfield in a few seasons.

Ooof this seems like a big reach for 3 of those guys based on all the rankings and phantoms I have seen?

ITK mail or what you want?

I know very little about the draftees tbh, outside of what type they are and the usual stuff you can read online, so I have some preferences but I don't know heaps about the players so I'm not tied to them.

A usually pretty good rumour monger mate reckons the order is probably Cumming, Nairn, Pickett, Dovaston in terms of who's likely around our picks and who we are likely to pick. Completely agree it seems a reach, but Kozzy was predicted to be a late 2nd rounder at some stages so can't always trust the mock drafts.

Had a look at a few more games of Cumming and they were better than all the previous 3 or 4 I watched. I'm warming to him but a bit nervous he ends up another Sparrow or Tholstrup. 😬

Tbf though, I like him a LOT more than I did Tholstrup predraft, just that type of player where he turns out to be neither really great as mid or a forward worries me somewhat.

i was the opposite, i saw some good games highlights of him early, then recently watched one game where it looked like they sat on him and he seemed to struggle a bit for clean possessions. i had him down as one of my selections but changed it after seeing that.

Understand the lack of need for a KPF due to already having a few, but is the POD that links Schubert to you guys a lot his height and ability as a second ruck? Looking at your list there’s not anyone really that would be playing in your forward line any taller than 195, and your two younger forwards in Kentfield and JVR are 194 and 193. Do you guys have a genuine second ruck?

We brought Heath in from the Saints as a second ruck. Massive unit and seems to be able to take a strong contested mark.

Still unproven at AFL level but he has some nice tools.

I very much doubt we’d want Schubert. His kicking alone would scare us of considering how poorly our conversion has been for years.

Ahhh knew I was forgetting someone. Who are your other rucks now outside of him and Gawn? Is there a succession plan in place bc I feel like there’s no more significant fall off both on and off field for any club due to a player retiring than Gawn whenever that is?

Schubert’s goal kicking is pretty great, it’s his field kicking that’s a bit of a concern

We have Tom Campbell as a stop gap veteran. Then Heath.

No one after that.

No way we’d invest in a high pick on a ruck/fwd this draft tho. Can always get a cheap ruck pretty much every year.
