Hi all, does anybody have any recommendations for me as non-gamer?? (sorry if there's another thread for this)
Never really grew up with video games at all, but I'm getting a bit bored with some other hobbies and I'm interested in gaming to let off some steam.
  • I'm really into good storytelling so anything that focuses on that would be good.
  • I'm quite busy with work/life/other hobbies, so it'd be nice to have something I can pick up and let go (an hour here and there before bed or whenever). I wouldn't want to have to sink ages into it.
  • OK with spending a bit of money, but I wouldn't want something super expensive or requiring crazy equipment.
  • Something beginner friendly that isn't gonna make me feel like an idiot for not knowing what I'm doing. Would be nice to get a sense that I'm learning as I go along.
Hopefully there is something that'd suit me. Would be great if anyone has some ideas, cheers.
The Walking Dead games by Telltale would tick all these boxes.

Hades, Pentiment and Firewatch also worth a look I would say.

Started playing Dispatch. Hadn't heard of it before. Effectively like playing an interactive episode of the show Invincible. Really cool. Runs a dream on the steamdeck too.

I got too many game son the go now.

Get a PS5.

Sony make the best open world storytelling games if that's what you are looking for. Games like The Last of Us,God of War,Spiderman etc quite easy to pick up and play imo.

You have to play Red Dead Redemption 2 best game ever made its like a movie a video game experience i will never forget

You could go the PC route but then you need to spend money on upgrading to play the latest games which can get really expensive. With a console you don't have to worry about any of that just buy the game and away you go.

Or if you want a bit more casual games and don't have much spare time then i recommend a Switch 2 you can play in bed as a hand held or docked to a tv

Majority of games now have a tone of accessibility options to make them far easier to pick up and play.

I'd like a second collection of Deadly Alliance, Deception, Armageddon.

Not sure they could do anything with the arcade AI, from what I've read it's by design and at best if it were edited/modded it may as well be like a training dummy where it wouldn't react or attack at all.

I beat MK 1 & 2 arcade so far (only as Sub-Zero... he's my main like Ken is in every SF game lol).

I'm enjoying it, but from other forums it seems the pc version doesn't have as much lag with controller movements as the other platforms.

Wasn't fussed about the online portion (pretty much knew it'd get botched in some way, Digital Eclipse aren't known for their online functionality in their classic range of games (knew this from their version of Frogger on the Xbox 360.... and the TMNT Collection from a few years ago). I'm ok with that as MK is more of an in person multiplayer games for myself and mates.

I'd give it 4/5 - nearly 12 hours spent on Steam so far across 2 and a bit days. In contrast I've spent 12 hours on MK 11 in the past fortnight.

Add Shaolin Monks

Presently in a fight to stay on top of the Towers of Time weekly leaderboard. Somewhat lucky that others are lazy as normally at this point in time, scores would be well over 100 million. On current trajectory (and if the towers keep spawning in my favour) I could be around the 100-110 million mark tomorrow. Then I'll fall off the cliff as I can't play Monday-Tuesday due to work :( lol.

EDIT I've genuinely finished 1st on quite a few occasions. But I do tend to dominate more when I have a few public holiday periods up my sleeve (Christmas/New Year week, Easter, Kings Birthday long weekend and Cup week).

Playing and loving Days Gone atm. Not a huge fans of zombies but the open world and bike riding is so enjoyable

Great game. Except for one horde. Everyone who has played knows which horde.

The hordes are the one thing I don't really enjoy about the game. Not looking forward to it :/

Most are pretty simple when you get the hang of it. It isn't really until you get into the late game and go up against large hordes that it can get difficult.

Dying Light 2 - About 25h in. Not as good as the first game, but it's a lot better than I was led to believe.
Gets a lot better about 1/3 in, once you open up access to the second area and unlock some additional traversal abilities.

The scale and versatility of movement from that point on is amazing. Really opens up the exploration with the amount of height you can gain.
