I think that when AFL players are delisted and go on to play VFL, they never stay at the same club. It seems to be an unwritten rule. I've always rationalised this that they feel that at another club there is more chance that they will impress and be considered for promotion to an AFL list than at the club that has just delisted them.

I don't see how you can say that GWS have done better than us, especially not by pointing to their acquisition of players we have discarded.

The Giants' VFL team certainly performed better this year - but that could be due to our injuries (which impacted reserves even more than seniors). Last year we were 13th and they were 14th. I think it's hard for Sydney based teams to be competitive in the VFL - not so much due to the travel but more due to the lack of depth in our VFL teams.

Now that is a good move.

Met Nick a couple of times - he did some one on one coaching with my son. He told me he loves the Swans, never wanted to leave but GC made him an offer towards the end of his career he couldn't refuse. We chatted at length about the team in his day and how he has incorporated the team first and selflessness of that generation into his coaching career. He has a teenage son who is a good player so never know, might be a Swans academy player there and future F/S. Overall, champion guy who will be so good for our VFL team and overall club culture.

Welcome back Mal.

Welcome back Mal.
Was a favourite of mine apart from Goodes from the 2012 team

Thinking a bit more about Mal's appointment. Let's assume for no particular reason that Serong steps straight into seniors as the third tall defender so we have a back 7 of McCartin, Melican, Serong, Blakey, Wicks, Cunningham and either Bice or Roberts.
So our reserves defenders are:
Talls: Hamling, Edwards, Snell, Andrew
Mediums: Rampe, Roberts or Bice, possibly Bowman.
Smalls: None
Draftee's: Carmichael, possibly Kyle, McNamara.
Imagine the development these blokes can get from Mal who has been doing that exact role at GC!
With Rampe and Hamling as on-field mentors.
Now that gets me really excited.

Could we go all season without conceding a VFL goal?!!

Thrilled to have Nick back. Our VFL side, as a team and many individually, have been a huge disappointment. Nick brings a deep understanding of Bloods culture and a wealth of wider successful experience. What a lift for our VFL players, the team and the club.

O

Could we go all season without conceding a VFL goal?!!
Maybe not that exciting but just the notion of improving that much talent QUICKLY and effectively.
Edwards monster lockdown
Carmichael distributor
Bice tearaway complementing Blakey
Cunningham replacement
Teamwork all coming through
Stronger both defensively and offensively.
Hopefully we have space for Kyle and McNamara.
Makes an old defender's heart beat stronger.

I like Col and Mal being our coaches in the development pathway. Both good solid blokes who faced some big challenges to have the careers they did. Both have a bit of steel but with a sense of fun as well.

Our VFL team desperately needs a bit of energy in the group. Great appointment
💯 Had this exact thought. Generating and keeping high morale is a very inexact science. A fine line between keeping high standards but generating a sense of camaraderie and fun.

Here's hoping Mal is the second coming of Rhyce Shaw (short of an actual second coming of Rhyce Shaw). I get the same warm fuzzy feelings with Mal. They must be great mates. Delighted with this appointment. Things are coming together a bit off-field now: Pavlich, Goodwin, Laidler, Campbell and now Malceski. A very solid bunch of acquisitions. Pavlich will have his work cut out being as good as Harley but the rest should be at least as good as who they replace (especially those who are replacing nobody!) so hopefully that contributes to some improvement on-field.
