Threadgolds kicking action is awful.
That's a good point - I agree his kicking technique could be cleaned up.

His decision making with his kicking is suspect at times too.

If he's deeper in defence at AFL level, I don't think I'd consistently want him making anything other than the easier and simpler kicks at this stage where he has more time and space.

But, everything else he has as a KP back is pretty impressive and reasonably rare to find - physical/athletic traits wise, and what he's shown from a defensive standpoint in games already in terms of shutting guys down.

To provide an idea of the the type of athlete he is from an explosiveness perspective at that size:
  • Noah Balta (194cms) - vertical standing 74cms, 20m sprint 2.912. Balta also had good agility and 2km time trial times for his size.
  • Thredgold (194cms) - vertical standing 71cms (running vertical 89cms), 20m sprint 2.918.

Hard not to think he's got potential to be an intercept machine at AFL level (not only because of the leap, but he seems to read the play really well too). A few decent examples of that in this clip -

It's a shame they don't provide the weight of players anymore either. He already looks really muscular and like he has reasonable size on him (particularly around his upper body - shoulders, arms etc.) - could become a unit in an AFL training program if he keeps developing/training.

Get the feeling that he would be able to eventually match up on both the guys with strength, and the guys with quickness/speed once he's fully developed.

^The above are just comments on him as a prospect. Obviously a different story as to whether we should be taking a KPD.

if we remain at #16 let's not kid ourselves it will most likely be best talent available as it should be, be that a Midfielder, Defender or a Forward, then drafting for needs possibly after that.

I don’t think a defender should be in the calculation for pick 16. We have that covered… it should be a midfielder as number one priority then either a third tall / Small forward

Long game. Do we have something in mind for say Sanders (Buldogs player) for when he is OOC next year where Butts might go the other way and we need to bank a key defender now and get a year into him before that happens?...just musing

Depends on the quality that is available IMO.

An AA defender would help us more than another B grade midfielder.

Bit of Jake Lever?

I'm more interested in what position 🤔

If that happens, personal preference would be Marsh and Onley.
Not a fan at all of Schubert and question Sharp and modern mid prototype fit.
No to Sumner-Pickett. Just no. Glenelg fan too but don't see it in him especially at 16. Maybe our pick in the 40's
The combination of either Marsh/ Barker
And then Onley is my favourite. With our last pick on best available, either a tall player to develop like Heatherton or Emmett, even possibly Cody Curtin

Is Indy Cotton the forgotten man in all of this? He could very well make just as much of an impact as his fellow draftees.

Or is he purely speculative?
I think so, could be a gem, could be a bust but its a free hit.
He did start his unofficial preseason with the club in August as well, so has a big jump on every other draftee.

Has to be a certain amount of speculation given he has played no real competitive AFL to my knowledge for an extended period.

Depending on the type of players we take you would hope they would be ahead of Cotton preparedness wise.

709 draft nominations so far before the shut off day on Wednesday.

Plenty of SANFL mature age hopefuls..Ned Atkinson one of them.

How do you rate the draft?

Normally I'm pumped and have a few kids I'm hoping the Crows draft. Not feeling it this year. Maybe because it's such a compromised draft. Imagine how bored I'll be during the Tasmanian years.

There's still plenty of decent talent if you identify the right ones re potential upside, just a bit more even after the first dozen or so picks. Not a bad draft to have later speculative picks in, not a great draft to be picking at the top end with so many not available in the open draft and clubs having multiple picks in the top dozen or so.

This is how I feel and happy to put faith in Hamish and co.

Two things I would like your opinion on.

Cody Curtin, if we have a pick that fits would you ?

My Port mate who has been too correct in the past re Crows to discount says we are up to our necks in Thredgold,
before the recent noise . Do you like ?

I'd prefer Liam Hetherton if he has a clean bill of health at that point in the draft but not against Curtin with a later pick at all though I do question if this board would have the same peaked interest if his name was Cody Brown etc? I think we both know the answer to that. Thredgold does appear to have a lot of natural athletic attributes and would appear to have a lot of upside so no problem there either.

Cheers.

I have no problem at all in putting +20% on Cody’s value for the brotherly thing such is the height I value Dan.
A late pick is one well spent imo.
Know nothing of Thredgold except that he is not related to the old Panther rover 😉 .
