Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

What would everyone prefer? Coming 5th and 6th and playing against a team that hasn’t had a rest in the first ‘real’ final. Or coming third or fourth and travelling interstate to play either a Brisbane or Adelaide? I actually think coming 5th or 6th is now a better option.
I need the mind blown emoji.

You may be right. Especially if your going to play a Melbourne team the following week.

Top 4 with a second chance is even more important now IMO regardless.

You don’t get a double chance and a home preliminary final if you win..

No because with 3rd and 4th you have a second chance if you lose. Lose at 5th and 6th and you’re gonzies.

The point is the 3rd or 4th team will lose and the 5th 6th team will beat an untested team. And then play each other anyway. Potentially in Melbourne.
Anything can happen in finals nothing is a given. This year 4th best first
8th beat 5th and 7th beat 6th all on the road too

I really think the AFL has missed a chance with the new wildcard round. Here is my proposal.

Week 1 of finals: (1) 15th v 18th, (2) 16th v 17th
Week 2 of finals: (3) 13th v lowest ranked of (1) or (2), (4) 14th vs highest ranked of (1) or (2)
Week 3 of finals: 12th & 11th get involved
Week 4 of finals: 9th and 10th get involved
Week 5 of finals: 7th and 8th get involved
Week 6 of finals: 5th and 6th get involved
Week 7 of finals: 3rd and 4th get involved
Week 8 of finals: 1st and 2nd join in
Week 9 of finals: the GF!

This way, everyone gets a chance to play finals and all the top teams get a good rest before they have to play.

And we do away with the cup. Imagine how the losing team team that didn't win feel with that being paraded in front of them. My suggestion -

I was thinking instead we just break the ladder into two conferences - the Winners Conference (1-8) and the Losers Conference (9-18). So instead of the Wildcard Round all the Losers play their own finals to see who is the biggest loser. Every losing team in each match progresses to the next playoff until the Grand Loser Final. The loser of that is then presented with a giant wooden spoon trophy to much fanfare (and awarded a priority pick in the draft).

The R0 Melbourne game is doing my head in.
The AFL created R0 to cash in on the no games in non football states. So why the Melbourne game?
You either play more games in Queensland and NSW or play a full round and take advantage of all states and the extra week.
Just bewildering and so incompetent.

Ps. Just like gather round which was supposed to be shared. Imbeciles!

Because Collingwood said they didnt want to travel this year. Pretty pathetic reason to have a Melbourne game. Could have just left them out like us last year.

Always top 4.

5th and 6th will definitely have an easier time now that 7th and 8th don’t get a week off anymore, but there will be times when 9th and 10th are going to win the wildcard game and then the EF. Imagine being a QF loser and your SF is against 9th or 10th instead of 5th-8th.

Finals have now become easier for every top 4 club to make the PF.

Surprised at the response to the wildcard finals round

Its not a bad thing imho

Maybe we should go back to a top 4 finals?
Why not just cut out the finals and have 1st v 2nd in the grand final? Any less than that is “rewarding mediocrity”. Or why not just make the team that finishes 1st on the ladder the premier?

I am not uninterested in a change in finals structure.

But this is transparently about getting more games, for more ad revenue.

Yes, it is just for $ and media but has nothing to do with giving more teams an opportunity to win it as claimed by Dillon.

In fact, it gives less teams a chance. In the previous system all 8 teams had a chance due to the bye. But this system effectively means 7-8 can’t win it. There is no way a team is winning 5 finals in 5 weeks. Zero chance!

Now if they want to give more advantage to teams 1-4 then that is ok. But please don’t tell us that it increases the teams that can win it because it clearly doesn’t.

why have finals? - go the european soccer route and just have minor premierships

supplemented by multiple meaningless cups... now thats a cash grab :p
