That's a good point - I agree his kicking technique could be cleaned up.Threadgolds kicking action is awful.
His decision making with his kicking is suspect at times too.
If he's deeper in defence at AFL level, I don't think I'd consistently want him making anything other than the easier and simpler kicks at this stage where he has more time and space.
But, everything else he has as a KP back is pretty impressive and reasonably rare to find - physical/athletic traits wise, and what he's shown from a defensive standpoint in games already in terms of shutting guys down.
To provide an idea of the the type of athlete he is from an explosiveness perspective at that size:
- Noah Balta (194cms) - vertical standing 74cms, 20m sprint 2.912. Balta also had good agility and 2km time trial times for his size.
- Thredgold (194cms) - vertical standing 71cms (running vertical 89cms), 20m sprint 2.918.
Hard not to think he's got potential to be an intercept machine at AFL level (not only because of the leap, but he seems to read the play really well too). A few decent examples of that in this clip -
It's a shame they don't provide the weight of players anymore either. He already looks really muscular and like he has reasonable size on him (particularly around his upper body - shoulders, arms etc.) - could become a unit in an AFL training program if he keeps developing/training.
Get the feeling that he would be able to eventually match up on both the guys with strength, and the guys with quickness/speed once he's fully developed.
^The above are just comments on him as a prospect. Obviously a different story as to whether we should be taking a KPD.
