Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.

Free Agency Period: Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

The NT (Darwin) couldn't financially support a team, but to suggest people/players wouldn't want to move or live up there is an ignorant statement.

There are not too many NT recruited lads that don't end up back living in Darwin.

Can you believe that 18 million other Australians happily live outside of Victoria!

The only financial model that works for the NT is for the Federal Govt to underwrite the team in the hope of catalysing better outcomes for the indigenous community.

Not too far fetched when you look at how much money they are dumping into a PNG rugby league team.

Footy season is the wrong season in the top end.
Would be absolutely horrific playing in the dry season.
Teams playing up there would get slaughtered the next week.

Wet season is worse though? Heat plus humidity is just awful to experience let alone playing sport in.

I was there in June last year, arrived at 11pm and walked into 100% humidity at like 25degrees.. that was awful enough.

It’s a fair call but the only way I can see an NT team happening.

Unless the Yanks and the Chinese Port start a bidding war to fund in order to “win hearts and minds”.

I am sure there is a reason for this, but I have heard nothing in regards to Patty Said being delisted and re-rookied. I assume that has happened under the radar? Below is the draft nominations for this year.

good catch. would mean we take 4 picks to the draft. one for Caminiti, one for Fincher (maybe), and two live ones

lends some credence to us trying to get Carlton's first rounder when the Dean bid comes

at the very least it seems like the preference is to pick in the national draft over the rookie draft, which makes sense

I am guessing the rookie list will be Hall, Said, Tex (SSP), LOC, Armstrong, McDonald. maybe curtains for Byrnes?

The arguments I have seen for Fed Govt funding a team in the NT revolve around supporting indigenous health and youth outcomes.

But only 263 000 in the entire Northern Territory.
At that level, the number of AFL players that come from NT is phenomenal, but its still going to be limited.

Darwin has less people than Toowoomba.

At current rates of growth Ballarat will be bigger than Darwin within 15 years.

He was the one I wanted as well. Hope he manages to overcome his injuries but yeah, we might have lucked out somewhat.

They didn’t get much out of Smilie and Lalor last year. Fingers crossed for them but we may have been lucky that Smilie didn’t get through to us.

I did a stop over in Dubai on the way to Europe a few years ago, fortunately didn’t have to leave the airport. They said it was expected get to 50 degrees that day

Never forget my first visit to the Gulf in '09..... 3am and 34 degrees and "swimming in soup". Its a different climate thats for sure.

Never knew about Whelan the Wrecker, and was driving past a big development near me recently after watching the doco and saw the sign. Still going strong it seems.

It’s became part of the language, one he’s playing like whelan the wrecker.

Or parents would use it about a child who’d left a mess, he’s whelan the wrecker.

this chat reminds me of a group of my ex workmates who made a trip to the birdsville cup,they lasted through the first 3 races then had to leave to get back to the aircon of their hotel rooms for the rest of the day

dont recall what temperature it got to,but they would have all been late 20s to late 30s at the time,so not oldies or any other excuse

It really was (from photos, im far too young to have ever seen it) and was probably one of the more egregious losses. Its expensive to maintain these buildings for sure but purposeful lack of maintenance/allowing a building to become derelict to force demolition is common as well.

Not sure a facade would have worked for it as it was a stand alone building and less of a complex like the Rialto towers were/are but then we will never know.

Neglect and some very handy fires helped the process along in destroying some iconic Melbourne venues.

St Moritz on the upper esplanade and a few places on the lower esplanade in st Kilda. I think the Glaciarium in city road was also left to rot and then burnt down.

It’s a gradual process, at first not a lot of people noticed and not all the development was bad. By the time people woke up and the unions became involved most of the damage had been done. Of course governments and councils are often corrupt and just straight up lie.

Yeah Darwin is like South East Asia, on another level.
I'm in Cairns, its humid but not like them.
