Hot Topic Michael Voss - Coaching in 2026. Should he remain beyond that?

Think Vossy was pushing to have Ken at the club for support going by his interview he did on SEN at the end of the season.

GW in one of his press interview after he officially took over didn’t sound to keen to bring him to the club.

If we make a change at head coach next year I would be shocked if we chose Kenny.
yeah Im glad we didnt bring in Kenny, if only because Voss should've gleaned as much of his knowledge already.

bring in a new voice and new perspective.

only reason to bring in Ken is because it's another man who would presumedly be in the Voss camp for job security.

Ken said himself a month back, that he thought it wouldn't be right by Voss to go to Carlton. As theyve already worked so much together.

If Ken wants to be a senior coach again hes best off not being an assistant anywhere. Hes got a 3-4 year window where he can apply for any senior coach role and be a lead contender.

If he joins somewhere as a senior assistant and that club does badly it damages his rep even without him being in charge.

****ing hell...

Imagine going from Voss to Hinkley at the end of 2026.

23 cumulative years as HC without a single GF appearance, let alone a flag.

Heaven help me.
It's more in terms of Hinkley was going to help in Voss having support this year, not that we are looking at going from Voss to Hinkley.

I've got a much more cynical take ... Ken makes it public that he's taking a breather from footy next year (smart play).

Keeps him well clear of any Voss drama and leaves the door wide open for him to slide into the role for 2027 without any accusations of undermining or playing dirty.
I just can't see it happening under GW's watch.

Why not?

I see a lot of similarities in Ken and Craig McRae (who he appointed over Voss):

1. Player development and player empowerment focus
2. Relationship based coaches
3. Fast ball movement focus
4. Emphasis on strong culture of accountability

Are you trying to scare me? Because it's working.

To my knowledge, he has never appointed a second chance head coach. My hope is that he would aim to find the next big thing among the current crop of assistants.

Finals, at least wild card qualification is a minimum requirement IMO, but needs to be more than that, we need to see a cohesive modern game style and a resilient playing group.. If he misses any of those 3 then we are better to start fresh with someone else.

Where are the necessary improvements coming from compared to this season?

If we come out of preseason and still dump kick into f50…we all know how it’ll end.

Replace 'Ken' with 'Longmire' and that's what I thought when Voss was backed.

I had similar train of thought. Give Voss a final swing while the list and internal stuff is the focus, give horse a 12 month break. Then take an informed decision on Voss v Horse v alternative option with this season under the belt and a more settled environment. Has been handled v Well in my view so far.

He has the year to prove himself.

He can't stay in the same lane and allow the season to unravel as it has done previously, if the season is lack lustre and goes down the same road as this one, he is gone and that is his own doing.

If he selects players on form and they play with dare and bust their guts for him, if there is improvement from the group and the young players coming through improve but they still come up short, I feel he gets another crack.

I have been critical of Voss but will back him until he is not coaching CFC. I hope he finds a way forward and succeeds with this group. I don't want a season like this one where after rounds 1-4 I felt the season was done.

Yeah I'm leaning that way too.

Horse gives Malthouse vibes imo, successful career coach who seems like he might be a little cooked and about ready to drop off the pace.
I disagree. Malthouse’s motivation was wrong he wanted revenge over the Pies and Eddie for getting rid of him

Horse chose to leave to have a break just like Dimma did at the tigers. I believe Horse would have the same effect on our club as Dimma is having at the Suns.
