I don’t want Duggan anywhere near the captaincy, because we don’t seem to be able to drop our captains when they are causing massive amounts of turnovers. Give it to Baker til Harley is ready.

Agree that his position in the 23 is not locked in like it was for previous captains. He doesn't fulfil any specific area of need. McCarthy has been playing for 5 minutes and already looks like a more reliable option at half back,

It will come down to who the players, coaches etc. vote for though. If 44/45 players (assuming no one votes for themselves) vote for Duggo then the club is unlikely to overturn that.

Duggan putting his hand up to remain captain so no likelihood of him stepping down voluntarily

Up to the players vote then which would need to be endorsed by the higher ups

Undoubtedly they get more cash holding the C. Duggan has performed the off field captain stuff very well. Hopefully he gets rolling on the field this year...because it was hard to watch most of last season.

Duggan is selfishly putting his hand up to save his career, if he's Captain it would make it harder to drop him.
Out of all the Eagles captains he stands alongside Steve Malaxos and Murray Rance as the worst ever.
We need new young blood in the leadership group. Snake and Baker would be great captains until Ginbey and HR are ready to take over.

Oh come on - is it really necessary to run the guy down like that?
The guy before you even implied he's doing it for the extra cash!

Give it a spell.

You know who actually does stand alone as our worst captain ever? - Oscar Allen - the guy Duggan has had to carry in the role for 2 years of onfield misery for the club.

Duggan is not 'selfishly putting his hand up to save his career' by wanting to remain skipper - he likely feels he has some unfinished business in the role and is backing himself to turn it around onfield (a decline that has been ridiculously over blown by some on here - he has never been close to losing his spot in the team). If he's putting his hand up again he's also likely not had advice to say otherwise from the club and his teammates.

Maybe Baker has no interest in the top job? Want to twist another guys arm like Oscar?..

Duggan is not in our best 23 by a country mile and therefore shouldn't be the captain. He can't lead the Eagles from the Beagles.

No, you think/hope he will be surpassed in the near future - that's not the same thing.

Captain or not, he is in the team to start the season.

Hope Duggo gets his body right, plays his original role and kills it.

Yeah, he hasn't been great the last few years but most haven't.

He still gives it his absolute all every time he goes out there.

Duggan is absolutely best 23 at the start of the season. He's had 4 consecutive top 10 B&F finishes (3 in the top 5). Just because he's a scapegoat on here doesn't make him not best 23.

Will Duggan still be best 22 by end of season - who knows? I dare say we will be wildly surpassing expectations if Duggan is fit and playing to a similar level to last 4 years and can't get a game.

Your first comment calling him selfish was disgraceful - have a good hard look at yourself.

Absolutely has to be baker, he carried us on his shoulders all year trying to lead by example.

We need to do away with the dual captain shit.

Feel like ginbey and hough could be added to leadership group as they are our future.

Oscar & Duggan were voted for by their team mates. I hope that a lot of them were the ones that were delisted at the end of the season. The remaining ones wont vote for Dump kick Duggan again.

Dump Kick Duggan's best just aint good enough anymore. Finishing in the top ten in a side that hasn't won many games in the last 3 yrs isn't much of an accolade.

Nah not buying that. I dont think any of our players in the last 3 years can say they did the absolute all. Duggan included

It clearly cant be Duggan and clearly has to be Baker/Graham

Rewarding those who were around during the collapse of this clubs culture doesnt sit right with me. Put 2 real men at the spot and let those who failed us head down a peg or two
Baker and Waterman would be a break from the past.

It would be but then id like to see people that we can move aside for Ginbey whose clearly the captain in waiting.

Waterman probably better for the press side of things as VC then Jack Graham would be
It might have been a slip of the tongue but Matthew Clark called Baker our captain on Gettable this morning.

I voted Duggan, more on the basis for continuity and the 'surely it can't be as bad as it was last year' vibe, to see what he can do with a better team performance.

1 more year to get us out of a probably still shit position, then make the change if needed.

Couldn't care less if it's not him either. Baker would be good and also keeps himself on the field. We need someone who can play lots of games.

Please no co-captains.

Duggan solo or Duggan and Waterman co-captians. Baker isn't a captain and he certainly hasn't been on the list long enough to take over even if he was.

I would never think I'd say this, but I would not be upset at all to retain Duggan as a co-captain with either Jake Waterman or Liam Baker. Duggan bleeds blue and gold and is a real leader. He may start on the bench for most of the season, but the young squad needs good leadership from passionate players who will give their all.
