We got screwed going to Geelong first up but otherwise the fixture looks reasonably ok. A few silver linings - no game against Ross at Marvel, don't play Brisbane twice etc.

Overall a pretty average fixture - not amazing but not terrible

My hot take is that we got Geelong in round 1 again next year because a cyclone denied them of the advantage of having already played a game this year.

I get that a lot of our country fans love the Sunday afternoon slot, but for me (and my daughter who is the other Freo tragic in the family), living and working around Subi and with various kid's sports commitments at the weekend - that fixture is as close to perfect as we could imagine. We got to five games last year, but the only Optus game that we won't be able to do in those first 15 rounds is the Saturday lunchtime vs the Tigers.

Im going to have another vent. We had our last game of the year last year away and again this year? WCE once again get the last game at home. I thought it was meant to alternate every year? We also miss out on the first home game at home?

It's so compromised and the AFL have doubled down and made it even worse this year with 10 teams playing in opening round. Teams 1-12 are all advantaged excluding the WA & SA teams in that group of Freo & Adelaide. Of the next 9 games of round 1, 6 of those teams get to play teams who haven't kicked a footy in anger yet.

Plus they all get an extra bye.

They should be playing Freo v Adelaide Rd 4 game for Opening round and gave us both a bye to make it fair. The rest of the teams are making up the numbers anyway.

We are returning to Perth in between the two fixtures and not staying in SA, so hopefully not too bad.

Plus even if we did stay, 8 days back home before the derby gives us time to readjust

It's an incredibly scientific process. Basically, they fill the fixture with all of the Vic and Northern Teams and then use the 4 remaining teams to fill the gaps.
