Draft Watcher SMYTHES 2025 Draft Thread

That goes with Geelong as well though. I also find it a huge stretch that a club is going to hope a fa is going to nominate them in 12 months. Hawks are taking pick 10 to the draft unless we come out on top. It just won't happen. So feel free to redo Hawthorn pick of you can. Pick 22+ FF maybe on the table is what's more realistic. We've already been linked with Barker, Farrow, NHH and Greeves for starters. Also interested in Grjl, if he falls through.
It does go for geelong as well. They definitely would have butters in mind, as would hawthorn, along with merrett again possibly unless they move on.
If you think it's a huge stretch, you don't know how clubs operate, they chase players and/or are speaking to them/their managers a year or two from ends of contracts, some, even longer. You have to collect assets to get what your chasing.
I won't be redoing anything, that first round Mock was based on latest whispers of trades and players to clubs, as was stated in the title of the post, not my opinion.
My top 12 opinion is four posts up.

So, cats have contacted Hawthorn? Right? We'll know in a week I guess. But again, Hawthorn aren't doing that deal with Geelong. What difference does another pick in the 16-20 range gonna make for a fa? It's not.. but I'm going to take your word for it, that Geelong are going to do a pick swap for Hawks pick 10+22 for some other pix coming back our way.

It's his mock, not yours. Conversation is fine but telling him to feel free to redo the Hawks pick is just ungrateful. If you feel so strongly about the Hawks, write up your own mock and let everyone get on your case instead
Err. Nah, just a helping hand mate. See it as that, nothing more. Don't go all red eyed when you see a Hawthorn poster either. Seen you have a fair amount of go at hawks posters everytime you see a post.

He's explained his reasoning pretty fairly twice. Have a spell mate. Don't see you posting your own mock draft, do a bit of reflection

Would adore to know which thread you're referring to. Feel free to PM it to me, but given you drew issue with what I had to say and not old mate, I'm already pretty confused

So, just a reminder.
Haw give pick 10+22
Gee give pick 20+20ish. Right?

No champ.
There was a whisper geelong may want Hawks pick, in that instance, from that 'fantasy' mock it would be 14+22 for F1 and 20 with a reason for doing it.
Nobody has to like it or hate.
Maybe just move on.
It's not what I personally think will happen however, but I would understand why they would do it.

No, I don't think we're going there again. That has sailed. Butters is dogs or cats bound hence why the cats would NOT entertain trading their FF.
Surely a club and supporter base with the confidence of Hawthorn would back themselves in to get the BPA in what is clearly a position of need in the middle though? Personally, even if they didn't go after Butters or Merrett again (who I think will be absolutely dirt cheap), a mid teens player this year and an end of first next year will be better quality than whatever is available at 10 and 22 this year anyway. Half the players in the current first round would not have been even in the start of the second last year, and next year looks much the same. I think you're a bit stuck on the optics of it, because its not a sexy trade

Yea I get your point but Butters will cost 3-4 top end picks which we won't be able to do. Merrett will be 31 and tbh I don't want Hawks spill two firsts for him. I had Mackenzie for us in his draft year, and I still believe he's one of Hawthorns best talents. Time will tell but Ward, Mackenzie, Newcombe and Day is good enough for mine. Obviously the Day injury is definitely a worry.
Having one or two talented kid come through can only help hawks future more than now but, players like NHH, Marsh or even Farrow are capable of fitting in a solid team.

Yea I get that , just as a Hawthorn poster I'm giving an opinion, strong one but still, this is open to interpretation I would have thought. Geelong want either of butters or Walsh ( who they've spoken to ) so they wouldn't wanna lose their FF. Anyway, thanks for the reply mate.

Its an interesting one Butters, I think that the Merrett saga has blown some inflation smoke into the trade market, only because Essendon had all those quality picks. Butters there won't be that same market unless a team is giving up serious players. I think Port will probably be forced into accepting serious unders, hence why I think its realistic that 2 firsts + future first (tas draft) + player next year for Hawks could get it done.

An interesting one I spotted that could be interesting to do with Hawks is a trade with GC of 10, 22 for 15, 18 and futures. I would think their future 2nd maybe. Something like that. Gets Hawks ahead of Freo and Geelong for a high ceiling type. They slide behind GWS, Dogs and WC but given bolter links with GWS there's definitely a hbf and a high ceiling forward half player available at both of those picks

Don't mind that. Still think hawks can have dibs at the likes of NHH, Marsh or jevan.
