Because Sydney got the Marquee player and the AFL want to show him off in Sydney first up and for them no better team to pit hem against that the team that had to give him up

If you thought Darcy Moore used to give away a lot of free kicks against Curnow, you ain’t seen nothing yet. 😉

Bingo!

And if you looked at it from a competitive perspective:

  • We get to play Sydney first up which will be awesome for Hayward and Florent (even Newman)
  • Then three easy games in a row (Tigers, dees and roos)
  • Get to challenge ourselves against the Crows to open Gather Round.
  • Play a home match against the Pies in front of 90K
  • Do our only trip to Perth in the season
  • Play the Saints
  • Do our only trip to Brisbane to test ourselves against the premier
  • Play the Dogs
  • Go back to Adelaide to own the city for a season
  • Play two games at the MCG in a row.
  • BYE to rest up
  • Go to Sydney for our last road trip for the year
  • 9 home games in a row to steel ourselves for a finals campaign.
TA
Awsome for Hewett to play against the Swans too!

Also I’ll be interested to see how we go on gather round opening and against the Crows. It’ll be an early litmus test on the cultural change at the club.

Not impressed with that fixture

Negatives

Play Sydney once away at the SCG
Play Adelaide once away at AO
Play Port once away at AO
Play GWS once away at Engie
Only play North, West Coast, Melbourne, Essendon once

Positives

Play Geelong once at the G and not Kardinia
Play Suns once at Marvel

Doesn't look much like a Carlton friendly fixture to me...

Same as last year...another bummer fixture for families with young kids. No Saturday afternoon games to bring the boys to...
This is an AFL wide issue.

By chasing TV ratings, playing more games at night, they are taking the game away from the kids.

You would think that eventually this will come back to bit the AFL as a generations grow up hardly if ever watching the game as children.

We are a blockbuster side so we get put in games that will be blockbusters.

Sydney, with the Curnow trade, that will be in front of a full house.

Playing Richmond at the G early, blockbuster game.

Playing Crows in Gather Round. We draw well in SA and WA so we won't be missing therem this will be the showcase game of the round. The Crows have it over us big time, they are a good side who have spent 4 years developing a game plan around speed and ball movement, run down pressure and are made for modern football, they exploit us more than any other side so this sucks a little for us but we get to see where we are at in this one, they are our progress test.

A little surprised we only go to WA once considering how well we draw a crowd there.

Double up on Richmond, Collingwood, Fremantle, Lions, St Kilda, Bulldogs. That could be a little tough. Richmond could be improved, Collingwood I am not sure but should be decent, Fremantle are mid road so a challenge, Saints have no excuse not to be a finals contender, Lions strong, Bulldogs could be strong, a bit like Freo, mid table. Miss out on doubling up against sides who are real weak or we have wood over. Essendon, West Coast, North etc.

Quite simply we just have to be good enough. We don't make progress playing weak teams and teams we have wood over.
