Hey Smythe nice work on the phantom, I know you said it was a coin toss for our 2nd pick and went Taylor of the Griller. Do you think that we have reasonable to very good depth for talls in the backline? I see a definite need for a back half player who can compete at stoppages, provide defensive support and be involved in transitional plays, does Grijl fit that need better than Taylor?

Do you think that the 2nd pick falls into the zone of picking for needs rather than BPA given it'll be pick 7 or 8 on the night?

Richmond are in the great position where they can shop the picks and then get who they want or just go BPA with those early picks, they can’t lose.

For me, any other year it is a reach, this year in this weaker draft maybe not, and we know Richmond have spoken to him many times and like him.

In a weaker draft, from my perspective, with 2 early picks, you get the BPA unless it is a bad fit, but with Richmond in the position it is in it honestly wouldn’t surprise me to see them trade those picks back and go for the players they see as high risk but great fit alongside the drafting pathway they took last year.

Can they find anyone who will trade futures though, who knows, it would be a struggle to find a willing team, not impossible, but tough.

There are going to be plenty of picks this year where clubs go for the high upside, high ceiling risky picks given that there are many players of even talent (and I say this without meaning any disrespect) but not the high end talent. So grabbing someone who is high risk but athletically gifted with good skills, hasn’t really shown much and has a long way to go may be the go for many clubs, maybe not early on, but from about 20 onwards.

Looking at record low draft numbers this year with plenty of unexpected picks and when lots of pundits tend to look at each draft with rose coloured glasses they will get pretty surprised at who missed out and wonder why.

So could Richmond go Grjl and Phillipou……possibly, and both would be a good fit in the system and compliment the team strategy and balance for the future.

Whilst it may be a weak draft the potential to have a midfield in 4 years of
Lalor - Hotton - Smillie - Robey - Cumming - Campbell - McAuliffe
Its way too good to pass up as there is alot of X factor and Power with a nice blend of speed

Disaster for West Coast if this comes to pass.

Move back in the draft to get a HBF who should still be available at our original pick. Can't see us passing on Cumming if available.

Then taking an NGA player without a bid when better players are available.

Agree, hope the Eagles are a bit more proactive.

Our 5th and last pick is currently 41. Which isnt great as we then have nothing to match bids with ATM after 41.

Happy to trade 3 and 14 for 6 and 7.

We need to live trade in a pick in the 60s which we leave as backup on any late bids against any of our nga or fs. If we dont need to match will let them slide to the rookie spots.

Trade pick 33 and 41 for say 31 and 60.

Then we can use 4 picks on non nga talent but hold a very late pick in the 60s and an open list spot to match if needed.

Dont mind Duursma, Sharp and Farrow but would like some more variety in the spread, a tall defender / forward / ruck at 31ish? Rodreguez is around that spot.....but not a tall.

Depends who falls through and if they have any spots remaining.

They are signing two SSPs to two rookie spots and have up to 3 or 4 nga kids and one father son.

They have 5 main list spots.

If Curtin slid to the rookie draft could see them taking him with pick 1..

I’m more than a little lost with your reasoning.

Teams have the same number of picks as they have list spots.

If you have 5 picks inside 41, and use them all to draft players, then you have no more room to add any more players through the national draft, so don’t need any later picks.
