Was the game v centrals his highlight game

It's only snippets of his game, but seemed to fumble a lot, and while he has good lateral movement, did get caught most of the time. A couple of late Joe the goose in the second half in a team which won convincingly.

Basically yes the Central's game was was the game that seemed to bring him into National Draft focus but still only got a State draft combine invite, apparently his 2km time trial was OK winning the SA leg of the 2km trial but still didn't feature in the top 5 in any of the States combine tests. To the eye he looks plenty quick and agile enough though.

Our father/son Mitch Stevens was actually Numero Uno in the speed test at the State Combines.

I just question if his name wasn't Pickett would there be this much media interest?

I'd only trade up for Cumming, but Sharp would appease the masses as he is a safe pick.

If we can come away with some combo of:

Marsh
Barker
Phillipou
Onley
Curtin

Without compromising our F1 I'd be pretty happy. Barker looks like a winner presuming medical ticks him off. Marsh has something worth looking at as well.

Did this same crop of SA kids also dominate the competitions at U16 level?

Nope, finished with a 1-2 W/L record in 2023. VM the Champions.
The 2024 U16 squad however were beaten in extra time (Golden Point) by VC (Champions) even though they finished on the top of the ladder and had a far superior %.

History shows however that U16 success, doesn't always translate to U18 success but I do believe the 2026 SA U18 squad to be very deep and so they should be right at the pointy end again.

I could see a reality where the Crows stay put at 16, but trade into the start of the 2nd round as well. Using a F2, and maybe their 2nd 3rd rounder to do it.

It wouldn't at all surprise me if they had a player in that range they are infatuated with.

However the draft falls, I’m just glad Port wasted their first round pick this year on Lukoscious. Would be able to grab Cumming or Sharp or one of the other top prospects. Instead they’re watching from the sidelines again like so many recent years.

With the projected 2026 picks 1 & 2 unavailable in the open draft to all clubs surely that devalues the value of 2026 1st rounders as trading pieces to get up this year's draft?

Would it make all first round picks more valuable as the teams with NGA / Father/Sons. With the new rule, you need to match a bid within the same round so will likely need 2 first rounders . They will be desperate to get those picks so the seller will be in the position of power and can ask for more.

There’s 6 first choice forwards that are locked in for the next 2 years. Add Pedlar, Taylor and rotating mids, plus potentially rotating Curtin and Dawson through there and Fog is well covered. If we unearth a better forward, great, if not, we’re well covered.

We also don't know what Cotton will be either. even he becomes a big bodied mid, we could rotate him, Curtin and Dawson in the forward line as a pseudo third-tall.

I don't I think it will likely be a SA lad unless there's a big slider, Barker even with his ACL now may be in our range whereas before the ACL I suspect he wouldn't have been.

Nah, this is an SA club first, we should prioritise SA talent through draft and trade, all things being equal.
If it was up to me, we'd have zones again.

Strange isn't it that Latrelle Sumner Pickett has had all the media fanfare when another famous indigenous AFL name Leon Kickett hasn't when he looks at least an equally good indigenous small forward prospect. If anything he's better performed than Pickett given he had two 3 goal hauls for Swan Districts at League level late in the season.

After spending his top-age year on the cusp of Western Australia’s Under-18s side, the over-age Swan Districts small forward has caught recruiters by surprise with a barnstorming finish to the season.
There’s a reason he’s earned the nickname ‘Neon Leon,’ with Kickett’s speed, vertical leap and goal sense drawing comparisons to his idols Cyril Rioli and Michael Walters.
And with his two pops, former AFL stars Derek and Dale Kickett, in his corner, some predict the soon-to-be 19-year-old might be taken as early as the second round.
“It would mean a lot,” Kickett said.

“It would make my family and friends proud because they’ve been on my journey since I was a young boy and they’ve told me I was going to make it.

“It would be a proud moment for myself, but even more so for my family. It’ll be a good night, whatever club calls my name.

“I just want it to hurry up. I don’t mind where I end up. Hopefully somewhere exciting.”

After initial interest from local clubs Fremantle and West Coast, Richmond is believed to have been the club that pushed for him to receive a late call-up to the national draft combine.

Kickett finished sixth in the standing vertical jump with a 74cm effort, and he also posted a sub-three-second 20m sprint time of 2.95 seconds.

And while he’s known for his aerial prowess, with ‘sitting on blokes’ heads’ his signature move, Kickett’s trip to Melbourne for the combine was the first time he’d ever been on a plane.
He estimates he’s spoken to around eight clubs so far, embracing his rapid rise from playing king of the pack with his cousins to a genuine draft contender.

After spending last season commuting, Kickett relocated from Bunbury to Perth this year to further his football. And he was rewarded with a senior Swan Districts debut in round 19, kicking three goals in back-to-back games against West Coast and Peel Thunder.

“It’s a pretty good feeling,” he said.

While he plays for Central District, a club tied to Adelaide under the NGA zones, under the SANFL’s father-son rule he actually lives in Port Adelaide’s NGA zone - which is how the AFL determines eligibility for each club.

Port Adelaide had been closely working with the AFL on Cochrane’s application with the Power increasingly confident in recent months it would be approved.
