Great analysis, Rich … the best I’ve read.
I’m leaning Sharp and Taylor myself. I reckon Sharp is as close to a can’t miss as can be and has not put a foot wrong. And he’s a safe option when we should be looking to play safe options given our ladder standing and current trajectory of development
I see Vlastuin leadership and longevity qualities and you build teams around that.
I actually really like that pairing ..
The other one I've be keen on is Sharp and Cumming ..see if we can get LeRay later with our pick in the 30's and then Kellaway ...all South Australians..less to home factor if they all develop together ..
But Sharp and Taylor is definitely interesting

Highlights of the drive please

Can you imagine the uproar if we did some of the trades that are being suggested that Essendon or Melbourne will do for one of our picks

Real fantasy land stuff

That's the beauty of fantasy posting, we are always the winner ;)
Look no further than last year with Lolnorth, anything is possible on draft night if a club desperately wants a certain player.

Sharp will be a star, similar to Rowell. Crazy how much people cooled on him considering he dominated nationals and captained the best state team. In 3 years he’ll be the one wrecking oppo players and feeding the ball out to our silky guns, TT and Hopper are irrelevant to the future midfield discussions imho.
Yep..the guy is basically Dunkley to us

Need to add Sharp in there imo. He’s too good to overlook
Instead of which one? I dont think we are looking at him or we've hidden it well.

I actually think CDT would have to be 1 of the 3 and we aren't sure if he will be there.

If we rule out Duursma & CDT then we know who is available and would have decided.

He’s more bankable than Robey imo. As Tigerbob has said, he’s been the best junior in his class comfortably for the last two years.

The better younger left footed version of Grjl with more midfield craft:

Skills & composure , Noah looks verys good. Tanner Armstrong also 7 clearances & didn't attend a centre bounce in the first half. I think he finished in the best players list as well.

I have thought this over and over. I do want Robey, but playing devil's advocate, we do have a Robey type in Lalor.
But a Cumming Grjl 'speed combo' and Taylor best backman would be an excellent trio.
Whats wrong with having 2 Lalor types ?
I would be more than Happy to take him and pair with Lalor and giving the league a massive headache as to which beast to try and keep quite.
for me im happy to take our 2 selections where they are or if there is a NorF type offer we cant refuse then trade the 2nd pick.

CDT/ROBEY - Which ever is left at #3
Cumming/Taylor - #4

Only split if Bombers / Melbourne give up both their picks

TT and Hopper are irrelevant to the future midfield discussions imho.
The year is 2029, our midfield comp is TT, Hopper and Sharp. We're averaging -5 for clearance diff and get easily beaten on the outside because the 3 of them are very slow. This board insists we have use your no1 draft pick on a lumbering inside mid because that's what 'best available' always means for some reason.

I just see an absolute superstar with Robey.

Has the size, burst, skill to be one of the leagues elite. Kicks goals for fun and a good mark. Modern day midfield height and would be an unstoppable duo with Lalor. I can’t see how we overlook him. Has that real bullet pass in his disposal also.

Just turned 18, one of the youngest in the class. Plenty of scope for improvement.

Character is a big check too with huge leadership potential. Listen to his interviews, the blokes a 28yr old in an 18yr old body. Knows what to say, how to say it and is going to bring hordes of lasses to the club also.

I see a young Cotchin in him (personality wise and how he handles himself)

CDT, Sharp or Cumming. I don’t care which one is after aslong as we picked Sullivan.

Very shallow assessment imo. But we all have our own views of players I guess.

Funny how now people are starting to believe what I told you all a few weeks ago and copped a mountain of negative comments for.

Spoke to people who would know during the week and I’m still confident in the following:

1. However it happens our preferred pair of top picks is Sharp & Cumming

2. It’s not looking likely that anyone will trade with us to move up. Essendon are likely to call our bluff on Robey and seem happy to get Sharp or Cumming if we did select Robey (which we won’t be).

3. We believe it’s near certain that it’s Dursma & CDT 1 & 2

4. We expect WC to bid on Uwland and potentially Dean after Dursma is picked.

5. We will bid on Patterson & Annable but if WC don’t bid on Dean we won’t either) - not sure if our bids come before or after we have selected our first player…

6. The Phillipou stuff is quite unlikely. It is dependant on him sliding far enough that our FF2 becomes appealing to someone to trade. (I’m pretty sure it’s not F2 (this part is speculation because I don’t think the club will be looking to lose any draft points for next year) but the person I spoke to wasn’t sure either). Also if we trade a future for Phillipou it means Kellaway definitely won’t be drafted and we will be relying on him making it to the rookie draft.

7. The pick in the 30’s wherever it ends up is for Leon Kickett and the club is very confident no one takes him before us at that pick. Club really really rates him highly and his interviews with KGI team were absolute standout. The club was keen on Kickett even if we had got Rosas Jnr (my understanding is that Sonsie can consider himself super lucky that Rosas jnr was shy about being at a big Vic club otherwise he would have been cut with Dow to allow for the 4 spots in this years draft…)

8. Also a nice little bit of info on MRJ as an aside. The penny finally dropped for him last year after he got dropped and spent time in the VFL as a mid. He has committed to a huge preseason with an eye to getting midfield minutes at AFL level in 2026.

Anyway that’s all I’ve got and I don’t think I’ll be speaking to anyone with knowledge between now and draft night so unless things change that’s where it’s at and I guess we will have to wait and see what happens next week…

Cheers for posting, this sounds very realistic & measured. 👍🏾

Interesting that with all the people quoting sources of having interest in players, it covers names like Sharp, Cumming, XT, Pou, Pickett (albeit later selection link on the latter two). No claim to any link to Robey. And even reference to Essendon coming round to “calling our bluff “ re: taking Robey at 3/4. Either we’re great bluffs, or, as I’ve suspected throughout, we don’t quite rate Robey in the top few.

Just had a quick look at the Melbourne board to see if there was any desperate urge for Robey.
Didn't read too much but looks like they'd be more likely to trade down than up.

They're mentioning names like Cumming, X Taylor, Grlj, Nairn & Pickett.
If the Nairn rumor is true and looks that way as he has received an invite to the draft then Melbourne wont trade up
and makes sense to sit or move back

Just to shaft Essendon, and assuming we’d be happy with XT, I’d trade 4 for Melbourne 7 and GC future first.

But only IF XT is our second man that we would’ve taken with 4. And we’re extremely confident we’ll still get him at 7. I know people will say “it’s not ridiculous overs”, but if we rate next years draft highly AND we still get our man, it’s a free first round draft pick in a draft we potentially rate higher than this years. And it’s a screw you to Essendon and their “calling of our bluff”.
