I think you're skipping over my main point. Whatever the current draft rules and point values, the club has to ensure that Dean and Ison are drafted. Again, it's easy to be hard-edged about this on BF when there's nothing at stake beyond your opinion, but we are talking the club's culture, reputation and a kid's future. This was before the latest draft changes though. Things change. Giving up two top 11 draft picks for an unproven AFL player is fraught with danger.
I disagree. The job of the list managers is to ensure to build a balanced list capable of challenging for a premiership. The club shouldn't guarantee anything just like we haven't with Gresham or the other NGA player we can select. Just because they're in our academy doesn't mean we're obliged to select them.I think you're skipping over my main point. As for the risk. Yep. He could be a failure. So could Ison. So could Cody. So could the two players we pick up instead of Harry. The risk is the same. But the longstanding effect it will have on the club is far worse.
Read my post again. We have traded 4 first round picks and three top quality players for just Smith/Dean? This just is isn't true man.

How does that help with getting points to get both Dean and Ison though if bid on early?I’ve heard Adelaide will be offering their F1 to us. These Essendon/north rumours might be helpful in flushing that out.
It's hard enough reading your posts onceRead my post again.
Feel free to put me on ignoreIt's hard enough reading your posts once
Would be really interested to know if you were in charge what your grand plan would be to get both Dean and Ison this year ?Feel free to put me on ignore
I wouldn't of traded that pick we got for JSOS. That's really hamstrung us now.Would be really interested to know if you were in charge what your grand plan would be to get both Dean and Ison this year ?
Also did you watch a lot of Dean this year ?
Yep tin foil hat looks good on youAre you blind? If you believe otherwise you aren't paying attention.
Collingwood getting a home game for free in opening round for no apparent reason would be another recent example of the favouritism.
Ask again in 5 years timeAt the end of the day is Dean worth pick 9 and 11 in isolation. First draftee to cost two first rounders.
Disappointing
Why in the hell would we do that? For a start Pick 9 is worth 101 points more than 21 & 27 before you even get into the potential worth on draft night. If we are going to split an early 1st rounder I'd hope we would do a lot better than that.Cal Twomey tweeting pick 9 for Essendons picks 21 and 27 and pick 11 for norths 25 and a future second likely to occur.
Not sure if I love that I’ll be honest
Edit just saw this is being discussed in the draft thread. Carry on
Since our last one.At the end of the day is Dean worth pick 9 and 11 in isolation. First draftee to cost two first rounders.
Doesn't look like Dean gets to Don's pick so irrelevant whether they would bid or not.Why in the hell would we do that? AND, I'd want to make sure that deal got done AFTER * had used their first 2 picks or else they could bid on Dean and shaft us royally
I think ‘cause he brought his own pedestalNot sure why jim is up on a pedestal around here. No offence but more often than not the bloke is the reverse Midas touch....letting Dean out to hang, terrible call
I think we trade 9,43 for 21,27,30 at the start of the draft so we are loaded with points for the Dean bid. Think we have to do it early otherwise Dons might move up the board via Goldcoast instead.Don’t mind the Dons deal.
Norf deal is horrible. I’d hold out for as long as possible on 11, a club will bite with an F1 once Dean is bid on.
We all have to own our histories.
I still hold a deep grudge with North Melbourne FC and umpire Allen over the diabolical chain of events that led to us forfeiting the 1904 VFA Grand Final.
I wouldn't read too much into Richmond delisting 2 key defenders, Blight and Koschitzke, and trading out a third in Tylar Young to make way for Dean on our list. It is just probably a big coincidence.
Anyway, we already got you back for Yarran by fooling dumbarse Silvagni into trading up to get ahead of our picks for Philp and Stocker. I often feel terrible about that.

Then we can wait till a bid is actually made to decide on 11. If WC arent bluffing and its top 3, we probably need to take the North offer for more points. If its later then we have more flexibility.
They are both just crap deals and we’re giving a hell of a lot up for these two players it just doesn’t seem necessary surely we get one good young kid outside of Dean with those two picks. Just giving up prize picks everywhere like the Hawthorn deal we didn’t need to do and then giving second rounders back to Sydney. When you think about the three first rounders we got for Curnow, one’s going to be in the mid to late 20’s and one mid to late thirties so this years one is where the value is. We are basically giving Curnow and and first rounders for Dean.I think you're skipping over my main point. Whatever the current draft rules and point values, the club has to ensure that Dean and Ison are drafted. We have already got the trading part wrong and now looking like making some pretty average deals here. But they are the experts I just don’t think we have a top 8 recruitment team. For me yes. Have you watched Deans year? But you have overly simplified the logic. It's not just Dean. We get the extra points to know we can secure Ison also without going into deficit (critical for Cody). Also, we get a (likely early) F2.
So yes, worth it for me!
Ultimately, with GW at the club now overseeing everything, we are not going to get this wrong
Imagine giving Essendon our prize top ten pick for second rounders in any draft let alone this one. The arch enemy getting out top ten pick and giving nothing in return for itDoesn't look like Dean gets to Don's pick so irrelevant whether they would bid or not.
