If Dean is not bid on by the eagles then Carlton should be ringing Blair to try trade for Richmonds bid to get a player prior to the bid and if the trade happens then make sure they bid on which ever of Patterson annable uwland is left pushing the dean bid as far as they can back then just wear the deficit, Just makes the most sense to me.

they have 2 x 1st rounder next year to match Walker so that shouldnt be an issue
what am i missing here ? Just have to not have the eagles bid

Would it be possible for Carlton, Brisbane or Gold Coast to hide their first picks by trading future firsts to a team that doesn’t need points this year?
I’m thinking that Freo could trade their 2026 first, 20 and 47 for Carlton’s pick 9 and 11.
After the Dean bid is matched (would 20,43,47 and 54 be enough?) , Carlton trade their 2026 first pick for pick 9.
Carlton get Dean and keep a top ten pick.
Freo go up 9 places in the draft and hopefully get a better 2026 round 1 pick, though Carlton might be feeling they will rise too.

Is this allowed or would a third club need to be involved to avoid picks returning to their original club? And are other clubs better placed to help Carlton maximise their draft?

I'm about 70% sure this is not allowed

Yes because you essentially traded him for a pick 11 thats gone for a future 2nd at best. And you got 2 other future 1sts that will be late and had to give back a bunch of seconds so the actual reade return was poor before you even factor in the salary dumping.
If that was the best you could do you were far better off keeping him for the rest of his contract.
You didnt answer how if we kept him how we get Cody Walker next year ?

Would Eagles not offer F2, 34 and 41 for 9 or 11 with maybe 54 thrown in

Maybe rules them out of T.Williams if a round 1 bid, but theyd only want to take 1 of the NGA/FS in this case anyway

Youd just think Carlton would prefer that over Essendons and Norths apparent offer for those picks
Looks more likely we go the other way and actually trade out pick 13 to St Kilda and trade back in at around the 20s range (probably for Rodriguez)

If we trade up to get ahead of the Dean bid, we won’t be left with enough points to match Dean, let alone Ison.

14 + 31 = 1453

20, 24, 27 = 1911

Eagles cant add anymore as they need a pick for bid matching

Even if blues are handing us 43+51 (240 pts)

1911 - 240 = 1670 pts > 1453

I wasnt referring just to pick points values.

If WC can guarantee Dean gets to 5 (bid on both GC boys) thats worth 600 points vs them bidding at 2 and 400 points vs them bidding at 3, so that 200 gap between the offers gets wiped pretty quick (its almost certain we give you a late pick back).

That's assuming Richmond bid at 5. If Dean drops further the points keep adding up.

Yep.

It’s been reported in the last week that we’re no certainty to take them.
With Kakko already on the list and looking good, I don’t see the need for the Bombers to take two more small forwards. I’d be staggered if they take both.
I’d bid on Sweid, but I really don’t think you need a 171cm in El Achkar. I mean if he slips through and you can grab him for basically nothing then yeah, but i wouldn’t be going out of my way.

I could actually see us taking Dovaston at 9.

I think it’s more that we’re going to pick to our rankings. Even if we held 21 etc, I reckon we wouldn’t have matched a Sweid bid if he was bid on at say 15. If a bid came at 28, maybe we would’ve matched then (that’s just opinion based on my own inferences). We probably don’t take HEA unless there’s no bid or it’s very late and costs us no points.

It’s a far more pragmatic approach than under the Dodoro regime.

Taking say small forward at 9 (i do like dovaston im just talking about the player type) over someone powerful like farrow or sharp would be a very essendon thing to do.

Do st kilda need 13? They can probably get philippou by trading into the 20s.

You cant do that with the same club but you can do it if you say trade out with one club and back in with another.
But freo wouldn't do it as they only have 2-3 list spots and are taking whan. It would need to be a club with more list spots to take the extra picks this year.

I miss Dodo.

Sharp will probably be picked up with our two early selections and Farrow would be snapped up by Melbourne?

I’d say we’re taking powerful players at 5/6. It would be more of an essendon thing to unbalance our list by taking the same player 3 times in a row.
