God this thread is doing my head in.

“CDT can’t jump. He is Temu Bailey Williams” [editor’s note: Bailey Williams is known mostly for his ability to jump]

“Yeah but so did <other player> in a totally different athletic test and he sucks so CDT does too”

“TEMU TEMU TEMU”
Fever pitch mate, only 3 more days (until the melt is over who we picked not who we might pick)

Addinsall, who we've been linked to, is my hope for pick 13. Pure mid, accumulator. Reminds me of Lachy Neale. Injury interrupted season has affected his draft stocks but he looks a jet

Suns squeeze has Academy prospect preparing for life beyond Carrara - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1452274

I think he's good but I don't think he is pick 13 good. I'd be wanting to bid on a few other guys before him. My concerns are mainly with his damage and his defensive application. He's a bit of Jagga in that he can absolutely rack it up (not to the same degree) but then it's just a lot of safe play and not really cutting you open

Coops as I’ve nicknamed him

Fukn hell why is it never us that does these deals

If the club wanted to do the deal it would've happened already. They instead chose to lose a pick this year to the Dogs on the final day of the pick swap period instead.

Twomey said quite adamantly on Gettable during the week that a 9 for 13 and 34 deal WON'T be happening and that Carlton have been trying to shop pick 9 around to very little interest from rival clubs.

The club can't be doing 2 for 1 pick deals now cos I assume it'll cuck them out of bidding points for Williams if someone tries to take him.

Think there’s a good chance Essendon come to us with picks 5 and 9 for our 2 and 13

Picks 2 and 13 will get us:
• Duff-Tytler
• One of Lindsay, Barker, Nairn, Pickett, Marsh, Hibbins-Hargreaves or Oskar Taylor as possible options albeit at least 2 from that group won’t be available

Picks 5 and 9 will get us:
• At least one of CDT, Robey, Cumming or Sharp
• At least one of Sharp, Farrow, Dovaston or Grlj

Is the drop in talent from that group around 9 to the group around 13 big enough to justify trading down from CDT to Cumming/Sharp/Robey

Opinions will vary depending on how you value Duff-Tyler’s unique talent/athleticism and positional ambiguity at AFL level compared to our need to fill a midfield hole that’s been too often neglected in the past. Along with the capability of Sharp, Cumming or Robey to fill that void

Genuinely think either option is defendable and why I suspect if Essendon were to offer 5 and 9 for 2 and 13, I don’t think we’d accept.

Suspect we would accept 5 and 6 but doubt that gets offered - 5,6,9 looks better for Essendon than 2,9,13

A number of pages ago I did a comparison over 10 years of combos 5 & 6 and 2 & 13.

From memory, the combination of players taken at 5 & 6 only came out on top twice. The 2 & 13 combo taking the other 8.

While that trade looks good on paper, I'm not sure that's the case in practice

Is there any chance that we take Sullivan Robey with Pick 2? Has anybody heard anything?

In the HS article that someone posted up yesterday there was the briefest of mentions that we were considering Robey which is the only time I can recall us being linked to anyone other than CDT with our second pick

However, Robey also has interest from West Coast (picks 1 and 2) and Richmond (picks 3 and 4),

If we don’t pick CDT, the club has done a masterful job of keeping our intentions secret

Did you do a comparison between 9 & 10 and 4 & 17 because after bids that’s likely where those picks land

If Essendon offered 5 and a future 1st that would be ideal.

odd aint it. CDT can't ruck. Yet A.Reid couldn't ruck before getting drafted and now is best tap ruckman in the club.

And yet Archer did at times, get thrown into the ruck when he played with the Gippsland Power and did very well at it.

That was part of his "draft appeal" as he had played CHB, CHF, FF and rucked in the Coats Talent League.

Trading 13 for a F1 if possible is definitely the play.

Given the new matching rules we should be able to use the F1 (hopefully saints) and our F2 to get into the top 7 in a stronger draft (if it isn’t already there).

The new matching rules means it’s likely to come in 2+ picks if it starts mid range anyway.

This!

Pick 34 comes into mid 20s. Hope for a slider and a bid on Williams after that pick

Duursma, CTD, Slider, Williams and Banners

Go into next year with 2 F1 and F2

I wonder how the club organises it's thoughts and plans for a draft.

Do they have a list of 1 - 50 of where they rate each player in the draft and just take whichever player they rated the highest of those that are still available at that point? That would be pretty simple and not require too much decision making under pressure.

Or does the type of player they have taken with earlier picks affect their decision with later picks where they might take a player they rated lower than other players still available just because of the type of player he is vrs what they have already drafted earlier in the draft. That would be complex and require decision making on the fly.
