Matthew Clarke on Gettable 17/11

Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

Arguably the most important question about this draft; Which number does Willem Duursma get, 1 or 4?
Going by how they dished out numbers last year, Starcevich and Young will get first choice at numbers.
Starcevichs 37 isnt available so he wont pick his old number.

1, 4, 5, 12, 18 are the top 20 numbers.

Hopefully they leave 2 top 10 numbers for Duursma and CDT

I've come to terms that we'll select CTD would much rather split or just go early on Sharp

But could we turn him into a KPD? Use his game sense and rebound from defence. Think modern day prime Jakovic (even tho I was just small kid, highlight of Jaco using his pace to rebound looked elite)
Wow, I was an adult, watching the Jako-Carey duels at the Waca and Subi - but let's not do a Little River band and start reminiscing again.
I'm at peace with whoever we select, unless it's a total sh*tshow.

Bit of a balls up on Clarke's behalf not getting/making an effort for pick 9 (potentially). Banfield, Evans and William although very talented are only worthy of Rookie spots not seniors spot. Those latter picks should of been bundled up with 13 to move into the top 10. Not to mention the possibility the latter picks may not even be required because of our tight list spots. We've just let rebuilding clubs like Roos and the bombers get a free pass on players we require like dovaston, Farrow or even Sharp sliding. Happy to be labelled a bedwetter than be an apologist for a club that doephus dumb shit time and time again.
heck sake. How do you know we didnt try and get pick 9.

I've been carefully studying the form line of potential draftees by reading the comments on this thread. It seems every player in this draft, is a potential gun, and if we pick them, we should burn down the club because we are ruined, is the vibe I'm getting.

Is that about right?

And that next years draft is better.

I have been reading this pearler since the first year I joined.

People are going too heavy on the "weaknesses" of a 19yo kid. He has areas that he can develop or improve on, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are weaknesses as such.

Even if they were weaknesses, it doesn't mean that his game style can't effectively compensate.

Talking about Barnett yeah?

Trading 13 for a F1 if possible is definitely the play.

Given the new matching rules we should be able to use the F1 (hopefully saints) and our F2 to get into the top 7 in a stronger draft (if it isn’t already there).

The new matching rules means it’s likely to come in 2+ picks if it starts mid range anyway.
Come in peace.

But Friday Twomey was interviewed by Jake from Saints TV.

He said that Phillipou was likely sliding out to the 20s of the draft and that no club was offering a F1 to trade in this year and the costs would be significantly lower to do so. (Carlton/Essendon/North broke later).

Posting as I’ve seen a number of references here about My club trading into the first round and parting with an F1.

Evidently the player we want is Jevan. But not at a cost of a first round and would go without if that was the case.

People are ignoring that we want a first rounder in 2026 as a goal of ours still.

I think pick 13 + F3rd for St Kilda F1st and F4th and us moving St Kilda F2nd to Hawks for pick 22 might be the way to go providing Williams isnt bid on

At 22 its that Rodriguez/Swadling/ like spot I suppose
The F1 play with our third pick is very valid. If we had moved up to pick 9 I reckon we could’ve had some interested parties for a slider like Sharp or Farrow. By pick 13 it looks like the draft will even out and the top talent will be gone. Not sure it would garner much interest unfortunately given next years draft is reportedly stronger. But with other pick shuffles maybe it does.

An extra F1 would be handy in a possible trade for Walter or Warner and would have the added benefit this year of keeping list spots free if bids come for all of Williams, Evans and Banfield. Not to mention we may just not rate this draft and have our eye on some kids next year.

It feels like we will keep the pick and hopefully land a decent mid option like Addinsall or Greeves.

Are you high? it's well known he doesnt/can't jump. He's a bad shot at goal and drops absolute sodas. The marking is somewhat ignored because he clunks some quite good marks to almost make up for it.

The Rowan Marshall comp isnt terrible except that Marshall is a better mark, and would pants him in ruck contests.

A bad ruckman who is 'fine' as a third tall forward but is mobile for his size. Heck yes another Bailey Williams, dream come true. Only costs pick 2???? Deal
I love the idea that a bunch of multi-million dollar football clubs and professional talent evaluators who have ranked CDT as one of the top 5 prospects in this draft have somehow missed the fact that he can’t jump, can’t kick straight and has stone hands.

There's some deluded people on here who like to post trades that work for us but don't work at all for the team we'd be trading with

To be fair we don't know where a bunch of multi-million dollar football clubs rate CDT until the draft.
