Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Great thing about King is he leads to the ball and takes the ball at its highest point.

I’ve seen Ben drop his head pretty quickly when things get a little tough against a good opponent. Also if you hated Charlie pretend efforts to chase and tackle then King won’t be a great watch.

I’d take Pat Voss over him any day of the week. He may lack natural gifts but he knows he needs to bring his best effort every week otherwise he’s out of the league. He’s also a lot cheaper.

You might like him as a player more given his enthusiasm on the field but if we had to pick one for our list, it would be King. We need a KPF and I don't think Voss is that - Cripps is as tall as him at 195cm vs King at 202cm.

Voss is a battler, IMO 40 goals at best would be his ceiling (37 this year) whereas King is on an upward trajectory last 3 years - 40 then 55 then 71. He is similar but not as flashy as Curnow. He is a meat and potatoes Mark-Kick-Goal forward that you build around which GC have.

That was earlier on. The past two seasons King has been great.
The issue with Charlie is he doesn't lead and just wants to wrestle.

I saw what Ben did in final against Lions this year. Started on fire then they put Harris on him and didn’t get a touch. Bad ting was he looked dejected and gave up.

That was enough for me. I haven’t seen him do well against any quality.

Harris is the premier defender in the comp.

I agree his temperament is questionable.

Ben King also kicked 6 goals against Weitering in round 22.

Wow, such an exciting transformation.

Not sure what to expect from 2026, but my damaged-self believes it’s going to be a challenging year.

2027 & beyond is so rich with promise.

One thing on King - aren’t we then just reinstating our forward reliance on two key talls?

Smith, Walker & ISON so exciting.

Hopefully Elijah brings his best self.

Much prefer a dynamic, creative, skilled forward line - so much harder to defend.
I'd prefer to see how Kemp recovers from his achilles and see if he has managed to retain his pace. If he has, he could be the missing piece of our forwardline. A tall, athletic, and quick second tall who doesn't drop his head if things go wrong.

Because we were playing poorly and had zero pressure on the person delivering the ball inside 50. We just left wide open leading lanes in our D50. Any defender would have been smashed on that particular night. However, King's issue is when the ball doesn't find him on the chest on the lead he's next to useless. His effort is generally poor even for a tall. His work outside of that 30m zone from goal is genuinely non-existent. I think someone on here put it best when they said they only time you see King cross the 50m line is when he's walking to the huddle. It's genuinely bizarre as well because he has all the athletic traits to be a great up the ground.

In saying all that I think a combo with Harry could work because he is elite at everything King doesn't do. Voss could be a good cheaper alternative however but doubt he leaves Freo.

Could say the same for Charlie too...

Pretty sure he kicked a bag on Weiters this year. If we can get King without trading, then we should be ecstatic.

I hope Charlie continues to try to wrestle players and Weiters will flog him. If Charlie gets off the chain an runs off Weiters, not sure who'd pick him up then?
A good system and game plan and Charlie could really dominate next season. Didn't have the space at Carlton with flooding and high long bombs which didn't help.

I’d be happy whatever wright thinks and whatever he does his finger prints will be all over anything we do in this draft
Curly is just the mouth piece
Wright has a point to prove and the filth have given us the best present we could have asked for an angry ,hungry smart successful person .
If he can turn our club around and make us respected and feared they’d probably build a statue for him at princess park .
Where?

Sorry? I don’t think so

I have an addiction to nicotine and coffee, love a line or a scoob every now and then and have a slight red wine drinking problem.

But I look on the light side of life the vast majority of the time as do a shed load of others with my “addictions”

I’m sick of drug taking being put in the mental health basket, it’s unnecessary and wrong to do that
Agree with you there TB... I was undiagnosed ADHD for 60 years of my life... I used to drink a ton of coffee, take recreational pharmacuticals a lot, and would regularly drink myself to the state of blacked out. Some people have genuine mental issues that are open to substance abuse. Being a young rich sports star isn't a mental affliction. It's afluenza... some of them lose the plot, some of them put it behind them.

I'd like to see people telling Rhys-Jones that he has mental health issues because he liked a bump or two before a game. Same with Dermie. Rock stars who had massive addictions. It wasn't because of mental health issues. It was because they had money.

Ive written the term down - " afluenza" - t@ mate alway sgpood to learn something new :thumbsu:

You might not, clinically that’s where it falls under though. It’s called substance use disorder.

I (personally) feel it’s an important distinction. Addiction is not much easier to shake than anxiety or depression.
The problem is that anxiety and depression are caused by issues with your dopamine or seratonin receptors and you can never shake them... you don't ever get over them. Addiction is where you are trying to escape reality for a while because you can't handle it; stress, grief, and a myriad of other factors. You can get over addiction. You're still an addict, but you are just not actively an addict.

One guy in the states successfully used afluenza as an excuse for doing something horrible. Another guy just got convicted trying to use the same excuse for two murders. It's something that only affects rich upper middle class and wealthy people. You know... people with a ton of money to throw at buying things just because they can. They think that it absolves them of doing wrong.

I believe if it wasn’t for Harris Andrews Carlton would’ve been 8-10 goals up at quarter time and playing off in the 2023 grand final

In a nothing game when pressure was average. Against Harris he knew he was beaten and just dropped his head and effort.

I personally rate players how they perform against quality opposition in important games. Same reason I don't rate Charlie as high as many others. His big game stats are poor

Both King & Charlie are very talented and on their day look incredible but I personally would take a competitor and selfess team player any day.

With McKay in the side I want a worker, tough competitive team player next to him. Why I have hopes for O'Keefe. I like these combinations

We definitely need another key forward target and it will come down to who's available as a free agent.
King is 25 now and about to hit his prime in a strong Gold Coast team.

Lots can change in 12 months though.
