Yes, drafting is an inexact science as is player development. That doesn’t change the fact that if a guy can’t jump, kick straight or catch the ball he’s not getting nearly universally rated at the very pointy end of draft prospects.

That list is also just a few of the biggest steals, conversely the list of duds taken in the top 10 would be silly to post given its length and breadth.

What evidence is there to suggest recruiters are better now than an arbitrary time from the past?
The duds taken in the top 10 in the past decade, outside of the covid years probably, are a lot less than they were a decade+ ago.

Maybe a number of them haven't lived up to expectations but the majority of them have carved out at least a decent career.

Just a few general points I have found interesting!
"No mids at the top" Personally I think Duursma is a mid, he may start elsewhere but he looks comfortable moving through the middle.
"We need all mid picks" Our midfield has been poor but most of our midfield improvement next year will come from improvements from our young mids.
"CDT will take to long to develop" I would agree if played as a pure ruck, but I see him as a hybrid Ruck/mid/Fwd/Back, he could play a lot earlier than expected.

I'll take your word for it

If we take CDT I’d start him in the backline round 1 next to Ginbey, Edwards, Hough, Baker and McCarthy and Starcevich as the back 7.

Duursma on a wing R1.

i find it humourous that we have 1 and 2 but we get 2 hybrid utilities instead of pure mids
Considering there's none worth the picks... yes. If we split and got Sharp then sure there's one but there's a very clear lack of A grade talent, let alone A grade mids

Come in peace.

But Friday Twomey was interviewed by Jake from Saints TV.

He said that Phillipou was likely sliding out to the 20s of the draft and that no club was offering a F1 to trade in this year and the costs would be significantly lower to do so. (Carlton/Essendon/North broke later).

Posting as I’ve seen a number of references here about My club trading into the first round and parting with an F1.

Evidently the player we want is Jevan. But not at a cost of a first round and would go without if that was the case

Probably need an earlier pick to get him so you'll go without.

Doubt he has 30mins. It will be rumours, ads and links after his interview finishes before the next interview.

Yep, 23 minutes of his 30 minute timeslot will be ads.

If Saints want Jevan, what scenario other than their F1 gets him?
Saints F2 certainly aint gonna be enough to land him, not to mention they dont even own that pick anymore...

He did say clubs like Crows and Pies will look to trade in with F1 if Sharp was still there at the Blues pick.

But if the Saints were prepared to offer an F1 it for Jnr Pou it would’ve already been done for the Blues pick.

Could also be a case of 13 + F2 for F1 ect if they really did want to get back in.

Pick 13 + F3rd for St Kilda F1st is the type of deal St Kilda can do. Otherwise theyd just go without

Well, the point kinda is that they are way better today than they were 20+ years ago, going from the fact that your most recent example in that list is Nick Larkey.
Understandably hard to make the point on a guy who's had 1 season and played 15 games. Plenty of players around that 'look like bargains' though. Just not had time to be at the next level.

funny clarke gets a 30 minute timeslot on gettable when the others only get 15 minutes.

They need to allow time for clean-up post execution.

Saints apparently unlikely to match a bid. Blues scrambling and not being able to cash in like previous years and gain F1s and match with picks in the 40/50s, Suns and Swans unlikely being able to get all their kids. Will be interesting to see if the AFL actually changes the rules next year.
