Sir James Anderson now mate.

English love handing out Knighthoods for mediocrity.

Strauss, Cook and Anderson are now Sir's from that era.

They were decent players but fmd a Knighthood like really.

Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Allan Border and Ricky Ponting would be the only 4 you could consider handing the Knighthoods out too in Australia.

And even then I reckon they would be embarrassed.
to be fair, knighthoods have always been shithouse arbitrary nonsense

When they won that Ashes series in 2005 in England for the first time since the 1980s every player got an MBE and captain, vc and coach were given an OBE.

Anderson is just a very good player. His only really stand out quality is longevity. Here is my list off the top of my head of clearly better Fast / Fast Medium pommie bowlers:

Barnes
Lohmann
Richardson
Tyson
Larwood
Tate
Trueman
Bedser
Snow
Statham
Willis

Shows you why they have struggled to stay with Australia the last 100 years or so. Only 2 of those players have played a test since 1970 (Willis's last test was 41 years ago). Only 4 since World War II.

If you go off a tangent thinking who is going to win a hypothetical best of all time test championship, at first glance you think England are in with a shake. Look at their top order batting:

Hobbs
Hutton
Grace
Hammond

Sutcliffe isn't even making the side and he'd probably the 3rd or 4th best opener of all time.

Australia and the West Indies have strong middle orders but collectively, but can't compete with that top 4 due to relative weakness in the openers in my view.

But then you have a look the bowling attack:

Australia
Lillee
McGrath
Lindwall
Warne
Miller as all rounder.

Hell our second XI attack is almost better than the next best in my view. It just drops off at the third seamer point. If you are playing two spinners:

Davidson
Spofforth
O'Reily
Grimmet

Cop that!

It’s an interesting point of debate, who is Australia's 6th best ever quick? I actually reckon Cummo is up there. He's showing signs of being a little past it now in my view, but the 6 years including and after his comeback were top shelf.

Apologies for the digression I love greatest ever XI talk!
Bradman said O'Reilly was the best bowler he ever saw. And they weren't exactly mates.

20 years on from one of this country's greatest days.

Is it just me but the Socceroos completely squandered this opportunity in almost every way?

Next to no talent really appeared on the world stage after this, the A-League's competitor is Big Bash cricket, they bleat on about participation but that's translated into very little for the national team.

Qualified for every World Cup, won an Asian Cup which is more trophies than England in 60 years, and an Aussie winning trophies in Europe. You'd have taken that 20 years ago.

A league sucks because the media is hostile to it and most half decent youngsters get snapped up by European clubs. It's also on a streaming service with no reach, it was way bigger on Foxtel but when they lost the rights all of News Corp would run hit pieces about hooligan fans. Not to say anything about the clowns at Football Australia

Looks like that gets them into a play off, not quite there yet.
12 teams qualify at this stage from UEFA.

16 more will play in the play offs for four spots in the World Cup including Ireland.

Thought I'd mention 12 had made it already as of the bigger UEFA teams most have qualified or will qualify in the next few days. Ireland won't be the best team in the play offs but they'll be 10+ worse ones on paper.

And if Ireland don't score that goal their chances of qualifying were over.

If that was to qualify for the WC it wouldve been their Aloisi with his shirt off moment. Instead they might have to face Italy or Poland
In the meantime, Dublin renamed their airport after the hat trick hero.

Still my favourite but of organic response commentary. Fossie goes so mad he forgets how to speak English for about 5 seconds.

Paully a knighthoos by averaging five.Paully, Paully Paully

I remember he scored a double century out here in the next series in that game where England lost on the last day in about 1 session after scoring over 550 in the 1st innings.

Stumps on day 4 they were 1 for 60 (leading by 110 or so) then lost 9 for 70 over 2 sessions on the last day and we knocked off the runs in the last session at a canter.
Never ever gets old.

The Denver Broncos defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 22-19 Sunday (US time) Denver now 9-2 and Chiefs 5-5 for the season.

Many of NFL pundits had the Chiefs winning the section in the AFC West, that's a hard ask now. Denver may finally earn some respect as a decent side following this win over a highly rated team.

Have a look at this.

Ireland back in the World cup for the first time in 24 years.

Troy Parrot will never pay for a Guinness again in his life

Probably about time I logged back in here tonight after that insanity last night! One of the greatest single sporting moments I’ve ever experienced, I just could not believe what I was watching 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

We still have work to do to qualify though, playoffs will be tough but Italy are the team most irish fans want to avoid, most of the other teams are at a similar or lesser level.
Sport is all about moments like that, what’s rare is special you have to savour them!

About half the teams will be way worse than Ireland. Problem is the format is essentially one-legged round of 16, then one-legged quarter final format ending with four teams making the World Cup. Then penalties come in if it's draw after extra time. They'll be upsets and the best teams on paper might not get in.

An upset could see Germany in the qualifiers which is nuts.
