At a point in time when something needed to happen its a fair time to melt to be fair

He should know what the plan is by now.... otherwise he should just stay on here during draft day, chuck a poll up and take whoever we say at pick 13.

Feels the safest bet
You think the plan shouldn’t be flexible based on who’s available where?

🤣

and you didn't happen to ask what WC are doing? just Richmond hey!

I didn't ask what Richmond was doing, it was just some info that was told to me whilst discussing another team and what they might do in the first round.

There is no lack of info on what Eagles are doing, they take Duursma and CDT with 1 and 2 unless a really good offer comes for 2. Throw a blanked over players for 13.

Clarke has just said we may slide 13 back… Hope there’s a F1 involved.

Also hinted that Essendon may offer a package including pick 9 assuming that trade with Carlton gets done.
13 is in a bit of a weird spot. Sort of not high enough to grab the sliders like Grlj but also in a spot where there’s a handful of options from the next tier (NHH, Barker etc).

So trading up or down a couple of spots makes sense depending on the complete trade.

I dont know what I heard at this point. Seemed like random mumblings. Atleast we cant crticise his decision making since he hasnt actually made one
Exactly. So what's the point in blowing up about it?

People are just still shitty over trading pick 3 last year but ultimately, we ended up doing ok, especially considering what we traded for Baker compared to what Hawks gave up for Barrass. Backed the wrong horse obviously but there's a reason most gamblers lose.

List management also isn't made in a vacuum, or a year on year basis. He has input from the coaches, as well as having an overall strategy that's probably a 4 year timeframe.

North are a great example of what not to do when building a list, because they've just picked the best mids/fwd mids every year they've had high draft picks, to the point they traded out of the first round this year to take Whitlock with the last pick of the first round last year. If we ever get to that point then yea, sack Clarke but it's clear they're building the list to a strategy they've decided and he isn't solely responsible for that decision, he just needs to deliver the best possible outcome for it.

Interesting that the Tigers have also flown to SA to meet with Cumming.

Could be a real shake up if they go with Cumming and Farrow with their two picks and kind of emphasizes how you could throw a blanket over most of the top prospects
Hearing Clarke what I think he is saying is:
-we intend to take pick 1 and 2 and value them highly
-but we would consider a trade involving pick 13 if someone wants to try and get pick 1 or 2

We traded up to get 13, so it seems silly to trade back in isolation.

I think we can only head one way and that is trading down. If that wasnt the plan we shouldnt have done the Starcevich pick upgrade and instead we should have been patient
That depends on if we could have used 23 and 24 to get a better return than 13.

Essentially does 24 get us a f2?

I suspect a trade will look like 20ish + a f2, with plans to combine that and saints f2 for a late 1st next year.

I wonder if they are looking at moving back to get more currency if Williams gets bid on towards the end of the first round.

With all so many picks between 13 and 34 set to disappear in bid matches, our picks 34 and 41 could move up to 28 and 35 which is a combined 843 points. That’s enough to cover a bid from pick 16 onwards, so we’ll have the capacity to match if we decide to

Ginbey Hedwards Starc
Hough Young/brock McCarthy
Duursma Gross Allan
Cumming Shanahan Hewett
Dovaston Waterman McGlade
Reid Reid Warner

That’s the team I’m trying to build to, we’ll have Shanahan and Kenh as defensive depth next year via NGA both our wings and HFF would have the upside of becoming full-time CBA midfielders.

Forward line of two way runners with flankers who can score outside of 50m, tall fit contested wingers and a solid backline.

2026 first round goes for either best midfielder or future KPD.

2 and 13 for 5 and 9 from Essendon and draft duursma, cumming/robey and dovaston.

Can then top up KPD/flankers as we move back up the ladder.

Also facilitates passing on Williams ensuring we land banfield and Evans because we wouldn’t put Cripps on rookie list.

Odd. Its ****ing absurd

I dont even think this dimwit plans what he is having for dinner before 5:30pm at this rate, never mind the draft hand itself

The interview was a absolute train wreck. The guy doesnt know what to do is the summary we got
🤨 they're clearly not tipping off whatever draft strategy they have, which is why I never give these interviews days before the draft any time of day cos it's just a bunch of hot air, posturing and 'Oh...I don't know...' /hair twirling.

It's all a song and dance now, as if they don't know who they're gonna take TWO DAYS before the f*cking draft.

Equivocating between players that are nothing alike is a strange superpower to have but it's one you've mastered.
Those two werent thrown around the ground as utilities because the u18 coaches were trying to find a role for them, it was because they were so good at everything(or close enough to everything).
Theyre still mids

Watch the usual suspects come in to tell us how moving up 4 spots to then beg clubs to trade with us so we can move down again was tactical brilliance...
I agree on face value it all seems a bit silly.

but true to your point, it may actually work out ok for us. we essentially moved from 24 to 34 to go from 17 to 13.

but looking at the picks between 34 and 24 and literally 80% are going to be eaten up in bids.

GC picks gone for obvious reasons
NFMC and ESS picks gone from carlton matching (after trade) - dean and ison will wipe these out
sydney matching harry kyle bid which is expected in teens.

so potentially eagles go back 2 spots in 2nd round to go up four in the first round.
now im not saying clarke is a genius... but maybe he is ? xD

Im shitty about taking Hawks 1st rounder and not Carltons

One look at Sportsbet.com.au should have told CLarke what decision to make. Hell a poll here would have told him what to do as 90% of us would have said to take the Carlton pick

Yes, make a decision based on Sportsbet odds despite, as I said, most gamblers losing.

Smart.

Is it it not that if we didnt do the above trade we are then front runners to upgrade to pick 9?

Pick 17 + 24 for pick 9 gives Carlton maybe 100 more draft points as between 13 and 24 is also a crapload of picks lost in bidding (4 picks and potentially 5 get lost)

Going from 34 to 26 is gaining 201 points but if 17 went to 16 (before Gold Coast pick 15) and 24 went to 20 (2 x Gold Coast and 2 x Brisbane picks) we have pick 16 + pick 20 instead of pick 13 + 26..

I think we would be better off with 16 and 20

That’s not true, there was a poll and 85% wanted the Hawks picks.

It does make sense to trade back from 13 if there is a large tier that is ranked similarly that start at around 13. We might have been thinking we would be picking the last of the previous tier with the starcevich trade then with the Catlton trade we aren't. Makes sense to move up or down from 13 in this case.
