Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

My two questions
1. Is a trade going to happen with dons on draft day without it leaking
2. Why haven't it leaked we have told the players at pick 1 and 2 we are taking them???

Why is neither leaking

Two days left. Wonder if Cal is going to leak something along the lines we called the pick 1 and 2 and let them know our intentions. Lalor was on the day apparently

Regardless Ill going with Twoomey last phantom

No leaks are a good thing

The usual suspects will have to read the literary equivalent of you flinging your own shit at the wall regardless of what happens in the draft.
Didnt you complain when I called a list of 30 people human crap in what is literally a quote from Friends

But then its okay for you to fling personal insults?

Seems hypocritical yeah

1- Duursma (WC)
2- CDT (Ess)
3- Cumming (Rich)
4- Grlj/XT (Rich)
5- Robey (WC)
6- Sharp (WC)

2 and 13 for 5 and 6, doubtful but let me dream for a 48 hours.
Duursma, Robey and Sharp in the midfield.

Woosh takes a moment away from the draft table and silently sheds a single tear: the land of the giants is back.

Tell that to Ginbey.

Who?

I reckon the AFL would give us a couple of extra rookie spaces for the next season and maybe an extra pick at the end of round 3.

Wouldn't want to be seen to be helping us too much in that case though.

It's our own fault for locating the club on a flight path.

Only 2 teams involved and both tight lipped. Dons have been busy with Carlton nothing can happen pre-draft so why publicise it. Cal has said he has no real word on what the Eagles are doing.

Asking questions is a disappointing departure from your normal posts of making up a potential future situation and melting hard over it.
Not nearly as entertaining.

From Chris Cavanagh in the Herald Sun

WEST COAST

PICKS: 1, 2, 13, 34, 41

The Eagles are expected to grab midfielder-forward Willem Duursma at No. 1 on Wednesday night before beginning the bidding wars. Gold Coast is bracing for a potential bid at pick 2 on Academy prospect Zeke Uwland, while West Coast also has Carlton father-son Harry Dean in its sights and is every chance to place a bid on him too. Ruckman-forward Cooper Duff-Tytler is widely favoured to join West Coast with its second selection, but the Eagles are also big fans of Sullivan Robey and Dyson Sharp and haven’t completely ruled out trading that second selection and sliding back. Essendon has spoken to West Coast about moving up the board, but an impressive eleventh-hour offer would need to be put forward for that to be considered. The Eagles are also open to either moving up or moving back their third selection, depending on how the early picks shake out. West Australian rebounding defender Jacob Farrow is unlikely to still be on the board, but South Australian key forward Aidan Schubert is another player who has been linked there. West Coast has NGA prospects Tylah Williams and Koby Evans available to it later in the order or as rookies, along with father-son prospect Charlie Banfield. Rivals suspect a bid could come for Williams as early as night one.

So-

• Do Essendon throw a late Hail Mary at us for CDT? What would we accept?
• Pick 13 - trade up, trade back or keep where it is?

Beyond 4WD at our first pick, plenty of intrigue as to what we do after that - our relationship with Rosa/O’Brien should ensure any trade plans between the clubs remain private.
2, 13 for 5, 9 & F1 gets it done for me. May be willing to throw Saints F2 in there aswell.

2 1st next year would set us up nicely in a reportedly stronger draft.

So after all the talk from our list manager, ESS list manager and RICH intel everything has changed but nothing has changed in the 1st round.
ESS are preparing a bid for 2 with a combination of 2 & 13 for 5 & 6 & F2nd which would be acceptable to WC.
Don't see 9 in the picture for WC in this scenario, why should we?

The intel is flying around that RICH want Cumming amongst a group of 4 players with Robey, X Taylor, Grilj.
So we have the intel imo going into the draft that RICH want Robey and X Taylor then Cumming in that order.

That makes the play easier with ESS and we get Sharp & Cumming at 5 & 6 as we are not keen on any HB types unless its Farrow with 9.

Seems we are looking at talls with our next pick after matching T Williams around 20-24.

Curtin KPD/Krasnadamskis RUCK who seems to have been informed that he has more than 1 club keen.

Smokey late or rookie pick if Curtin is off the board would be well worth a punt would be S Ainsworth KPF/KPD/RUCK 198cm who has the same profile as Krasnadamskis with his basketball backgound and athletic profile upside albeit more a KPD than RUCK.

9 because there is intel Farrow might not be there at 13. If we have a hard on for Farrow 13 to 9 gets Farrow.

Woweeee so dons are preparing a bid. Excellent

Remember it is very apparent if we have a hardon for someone we will move heaven to get them. Think Bo Allan.

That's the bare minimum as a trade for pick 2 and 13. If Dons really want that pick they'll be paying up.

Hopefully Cumming and Sharp would be available 5 and 6 but a mixture of those two and Robey would make for a very good draft haul along with Duursma.
Would come down to our rankings and intel. If we love Robey and Sharp and we think they are there at 5 & 6 I think we might do it.

I would hope we'd demand more. I haven't heard Robey mentioned too much when it comes to the Eagles so if we are interested it's very tight-lipped.

Next years draft is less exciting now with Cochrane out of the picture. Part of the appeal for the Bombers F1 was potentially two tickets in the sweepstakes for him.

Could potentially be in the same situation as this year with the best prospects club tied and having to pick the best talent over needs.

Would be a huge risk because of the uncertainty around Richmond. There’s a chance they still go Robey and Cumming after the trade leaving us with Sharp and who?

I’d feel pretty flat if we didn’t end up with 2 of those 3 from trading down.

Agreed, intel would have a big say and you wouldn’t do it unless you were confident.

Duursma, Farrow and Sharp would likely be the result.

Picks next year could be traded for 2027 picks at a premium if port needs to move up for Dougie or Tassie Mini-Draft picks.
The WA group is looking solid next year and with out NGAs and Harper Banfield we could do with plenty of resources next year. Thats where I think the Saints F2 goes into a bid match.

Wth. I’m actually pretty happy our recruiting team aren’t ruining what has been a nice tight lipped buildup with what might happen particularly with 2, 13 and some potential for swaps still in play.

Rather we let offers if they are around come to us than blurt out our plans with a couple of sleeps to go until our biggest draft night ever. Can’t wait, even if it does go the most likely way of Duursma / CDT, there will be plenty of interest in how we come out of it overall

How I want our recruiting team to answer media enquiries:
