Going by what Hamish said here it's looking extremely unlikely we're trading up with our 1st pick.

I reckon we go for our developing ruck next year reading between the lines

But Ogilvie said next year’s group could very well be even better.

“As good as this year’s group was next year’s South Australian group looks really good, maybe better,” he said.
“So there would be some reluctance to use a future one unless it was for a certain player.”

The Crows have the most South Australians on their list out of any AFL club, with the percentage increasing over the past five years.

But Ogilvie said where they were after claiming the minor premiership in 2025 meant they just had to take the best available player.

“Probably where we are in our build now you have to take the best player no matter where they come from,” he said.

“I think where we are at now you take the best player with our first pick no matter and then balancing out with our second pick.”

He said that would apply to the position of players the Crows take, with the addition of Finnbar Maley from North Melbourne meaning they could wait until next year’s draft to look at an emerging ruck.
“A little bit of the rule changes, you would look at having your three rucks or two and two tall forwards who can ruck,” he said.

“You have your wrestler in (Reilly) O’Brien, your long tall bloke in (Lachlan) McAndrew and your jumper is Finnbar or perhaps something out the back.

“I like the ruckman in next year’s pool more … we are not going to obsess with a ruck it is not a massive need.”

The Crows other focus from this week will be to get Brisbane’s dual-premiership forward Callum Ah Chee in the pre-season draft after they couldn’t agree on a trade with the Lions.

Port Adelaide did hint it could try and meet with Ah Chee given the Power would have a pick ahead of the Crows in the pre-season draft.

But the Crows are confident they will get Ah Chee to West Lakes this week.
The club is obviously very happy with ROB.

The plan seems to be to stick with him until he's 35+.

Should ‘best player’ apply with Thredgold though, given we already have a bunch of 24 or 25yo KPDs in our best team?

Well unless Hamish is playing ducks and drakes if Thredgold is top of our talent order board when our pick comes around then I guess we take him.

IMO SA has it's best ruck prospect in years in 2026 in Ethan Herbert and Vic's Harry Van Hattum and WA's Benji Van Rooyen not too far behind him

As said previously, this club does not value developing rucks at all with the current people in charge.

Come next year, they'll be "oh, yeah, watch this space in 2027".

Was hoping we'd be able to use the F2/3 that we were using for Ah Chee to move up into an earlier 2nd this year to go after Onley/Rodriguez, also take Cody with our last. Would've been pretty happy with coming out with Marsh, Onley & Curtin.
But reading into what Hamish has said, we may be looking to use all those picks next year.
Odd that we could be holding out a SSP spot over taking a pick in this draft, hopefully they're holding that for someone decent...

Wouldn't that suggest we're looking at AFL ready players not draftees?

Do Norwood have a ruckman we can steal?

Would be worth it just for the lulz.
Going by what Hamish said above it appears Maley might be doing some AFL rucking sooner than later.

Hamish said highest on the talent order for the first pick so interested to see what happens.

With the first round looking like it could be 28 picks I wonder if we'll move up after we've taken our first pick. To get someone else in the 22-30 range

That too looks unlikely given what Hamish is on record saying above re next year's draft and he seems pretty set at keeping our 2026 draft capital. How far would pick 48, 55 and 64 get us up the draft board even if they come in a few picks re Academy, F/S bids given Twomey thinks only 55 picks will be taken?

Twomey estimating 25 picks in the first round and maybe only 10 in the second after bids.

Which means 48, 55 and 61 turn into 39 or 40, 43 to 47, and 49 to 53 (depending on how many of the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Carlton bids in third round have been swallowed up).

That's enough to get us a pick around 30.

We'd just need to go early enough that someone still has an academy/ father son to fund and there's someone still on the table that we want.

We’re trading 48

Mutineer will like that were linked to Hetherton and Burmeister, too
That Floyd Burmeister (19 year old) would be a real surprise, I've heard nothing this end about our interest or for that matter by any clubs because surely his top age brother Sinclair wouldn't be the Burmeister he's talking.
