And down the road they'll just call for more of the same
At least this time around if the legislation is implemented the way it's intended the government of the time can push back and say "hang on we tried it your way and it hasn't worked we need to do something different" by than you have missed the boat and it sets the issue further behind.

Altho it won't be operating at peak capacity till Feb from what I've read.
This stuff is pushed back my months, then weeks, so bringing it forward a day is possibly something to be happy about.

At election time, all that people will remember is that it's open. The Libs have nothing to show for the last 30 years (having barely been in Govt). The only piece of infrastructure they can crow about is Regional Rail Link which is already overdue for an upgrade and creating capacity constraints in the network after only 10 years since the Libs kept de-scoping it. Or CityLink or the Casino which are both privately owned.

It's why it's so hard for the Libs to be critical of the Infrastructure spend. The alternative is near-nothing.

Infrastructure is fantastic and needed for a growing City.

But that does not mean we should accept massive cost blow-outs and time delays. Westgate Tunnel was meant to open in 2022 and will end up costing double what was originally budgeted. The NWL cost has blown out by 160%. And while cost blow outs are in part due to global factors the fact is that lack of due diligence was responsible for cost blow out on the Westgate Tunnel and it has been estimated that giving CFMEU exclusive control of Big Build projects has resulted in costs blowing out by 30%

And yes, the alternative is near nothing and that was because the LNP was only in power for 4 years post 1992. LNP planned the East-West Link as well as Airport Rail, both of which were canned by Labor. The EWL would have been up and running for 5-8 years by now, and if you recall the reason it was canned was supposedly because it was not considered financially viable. In reality it was because it was an AWU site.

Neither the Westgate Tunnel, NWL or SRL stack up financially. But who really cares about that?

That's correct, I'm sure there'll be a huge defects list but more important for it to open to this govt.

I agree with the overall theme of what you're saying. I'd rather they invest to the extent they are on infrastructure, especially public transit, than not given the population growth we have, even if I would've gone about implementing certain projects a bit differently.

I'm excited for the metro to open in it's full form, It's just the oh they're opening it a week early, while it's on a short modified time table over 2 months as a typical PR exercise and while I know all sides do it, there's few things I hate in politics more than those.

What is this new NWL acronym? Guessing you mean NEL?

If all these infrastructure projects "don't stack up", just like EWL didn't. What exactly are we supposed to do to accommodate huge population growth? (City Loop Reconfiguration and more PT projects that "don't stack up"?)

Maybe the measurement method is wrong. Victoria can't refuse migration or change migration laws or ban people from moving here or restrict growth (house prices would be even more ridiculous).

Violent thugs have been treated to a trip to Gold Coast theme parks as part of their rehabilitation.
The Herald Sun understands at least two serious youth offenders have been flown to Queensland to visit theme parks there with the outings allowed under varied Community Correction Orders signed off on by courts.

The boys, aged in their teens, are understood to have been convicted of home invasions and car jackings.

When questioned about the trips by the Herald Sun, Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said the decision to greenlight the outings had not been made by her government.

“I want to be clear that in this matter that is being reported today, that there has been advise that there has been no youth justice officials involved in and accompanying these young people,” Ms Allan said on Monday.

“And given that this was a decision that has been taken through the corrections process, I’m not in a position to comment in the circumstances that led to this decision.”

It is understood, however, that Victoria’s Department of Justice and Community Safety was aware of the decision.

Supposedly paid for by NDIS, the fund that keeps giving

This is the underlying real issue with these kids. They've got problems. They've got bad parents.

The cure is prevention and treating them well, perhaps even better than non-criminal kids, and it is a horrendous look and the Herald Sun and Sky will jump on it.

To the point that it's one story about scary criminal kids. The next story is about how you shouldn't be nice to these kids and them going to the Gold Coast (like most other kids) is a bad thing.

Correct. 30th Nov to 31st Jan is extra trains between 10-3 on weekdays and 10-7 weekends.

Feb 1 the full timetable starts.

Not running the full timetable at the start is common. Elizabeth Line in London had a few months of a disjointed timetable before the full timetable ran

I don't mind if they do a reduced timetable at the start, just dont like the Premier using it as a political tool. Leave that for when it's fully operational.

It's carrying passengers so for the sake of it it's open.

No way he loses the leadership right?

Seems inevitable to me, whether it's today or it takes two goes. The big consideration for me is how much time those loyal to him will now have to white ant Wilson before they're even in election mode. You honestly couldn't make it up. Plenty of ammunition built up against the incumbents over more than a decade in office, but on the days when the Government is announcing they're weeks away from opening two of its major Big Build projects, the Libs feel like it's a good time for a spill. Again.

The timing alone indicates they have little interest and not much of a plan to win anything more the petty, personal squabbles within the party.

At a far reduced capacity. This is why I and so many hate politics.

Every independent expert I've read has welcomed the opening approach as a common sense way to introduce this to the existing network.

Depends on whether you think Jacqui Felgate or Graham Currie is a better equipped expert to comment on this sort of strategy I suppose.

Are they still telling everyone the trains dont fit?

Battin never even tried to complain about the Metro project.

Why would you overthrow him when two big mega projects are about to open and Allan does victory drive-throughs for weeks or months?
Because Wilson will focus sharply on the things that the Allan government have let slip, other than crime which looks to have been neutralised.
