Matthew Clarke on Gettable 17/11

Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

Spare a thought for Fred Rodriguez, very little mention of him by Twomey among the club preferences. Hopefully he doesn’t suffer the same fate as Koen Sanchez, who went undrafted after being highly rated in his under age year and then was considered to be worth a pick in the 20s or 30s in his draft year.

I'm guessing the knocks on Addinsall are speed and hurt factor?

Addinsall

Sharp

Addinsall also finished top 10 in both jumping tests at the combine, as well as recording 6:15 in the 2km.

I don't think there's a massive difference between him and Sharp at playing inside mid. He's a bit smaller than Sharp but he's still taller than Matt Rowell.

Basically, we can't get Sharp so we are looking to get the next best thing but we also take the 2nd most talented player in the draft in CDT.

Duursma and CDT no surprise.

If we’re serious about Addinsall we should also bid on Patterson after Uwland.

Would love the Blues to talk us out of a bid in exchange for pick 9 for 13, 34.

Would rather take Dovaston at 17 and if a bid comes for Williams that early no way am I matching.
That’s my thinking.

What’s the difference in that extra pick. The risk of missing CDT, versus the benefit of GC being squeezed (and anything it does to improve our later picks).

Any poindexter types able to do the maths on an Patterson bid at 3 rather than at 4 by Richmond? If it’s a material difference later down the line I don’t see why we wouldn’t do it.
I'd bid on Patterson anyway. The kid's a jet. What is the worst that happens? The Suns don't match and we walk away with Duursma and Patterson.

Shortcoming: Kick-to-handball ratio.

As in he’s primarily an extractor that feeds the Harley Reid’s of the world?

Gee, what a shame that would be.

So, sounds like the club is aware of what they need after all.

His write-up also says he works hard in transition chains also, which complements Mini's game plan.

Plus Duursma will end up being a mid anyway after a couple of years.

Hurt factor also means f*ck all when he’s handballing it to Reid, Hewett and Duursma.

Basically the exact player we need. Someone you can pencil in for 25-30 touches a week with good stoppage/clearance craft. We already have the hurt factor on the list.

What about defensive intent.

Dyson ****ing sharp is the best defensive talent since Wardlaw.

Nobody touches Dyson Sharp two way running. We already have clay hall. Who's still chasing tail to this day

Yep, if we can nab him I'd be pretty stoked.

Who gives a **** when the kid's winning the ball at stoppage and getting it out constantly?

Also, isn't that why we're bringing in Dev?

Twomey also mentioned in his mock that St Kilda are interested in Banfield
We’re absolutely going to get shafted on Evans or Banfield.

Once one of them goes the opportunity is going to be too good to pass up for a club with a late pick, especially if it’s Banfield that goes first leaving Evans open.

I’ve been talking about Beau Addinsall being the guy we could shake loose for a while, I’d be very content with him at 13.

He just knows how to find the footy, on the inside and outside, he’s tough, he’s composed and he’s a great leader.

What shouldn’t be lost is he’s coming from the Suns academy who prepare players for the AFL a lot better than them being at a non academy team, he’s ready to go.

He can be very handball happy at times which is my one big knock on him, but in saying that we also need a guy who racks up those sorts of touches, we’ve missed one for a while.

I’ve whinged about it before and this will be the last time… but I can’t believe we don’t have more list spots open, look at the guys available in the late 20’s and guys that weren’t even named… NHH, Phillipou, Barker and about 10 other solid guys I really like.
