...or he's playing for clicks and amazingly receives late mail / enhanced intuitive power 24 hours from now and changes his rankings.

Also likely.

The most interesting part for me is he has Freo bidding on Sweid and us matching, I think I’ve seen 3 other sources report the same. For that to happen, another shoe has to drop or we go into deficit next year.

He may already have that info handy as it seems like there are other handshake deals that are in place and will be formalised as soon as the draft opens.

I think we are fully committed to Sweid and El-Achker in my opinion.

The Carlton trade will likely come with some late picks. Then I reckon we trade a FF3rd or 4th on the night if needed for more points from a team who does not need to use a pick.

We need to be careful

A freo First round bid at 25 is 530 points required

Blues 43 and 54 likely end up in at 36 and 46 = 435

~100 point deficit

Which would move our F1 back if its not a top 7 pick
Pick 48 is worth 102 points. Can trade F3 to someone for something in the mid 40s if need be.

Reality is that some teams won't know 110% who they're going to pick. There are many a potential domino effect given Richmond may take Grlj, who at the moment he has going to Hawthorn at 14 and that'll change who Essendon has to pick from. Melbourne may pass on Nairn, which means he slides.

Doesn't mean he's playing for clicks he seems to take this stuff seriously (it is his job!). At the moment he may still be speculating slightly, so when he knows for certain of course he'll change it.

I'd be happy with the haul that Cal suggested for you guys if I was in your shoes.

Carlton probably do the North trade first, then trade with you.

11, 54 for 25, 46, F2

9, 43, 46 for 21, 27, 30

Should give you plenty of points for Sweid, with a pick in late 40s leftover for HEA (you could go into slight deficit here if he's bid on before 36, but the deficit would come out of your F2 next year, which is much easier to swallow than your F1)

dont see how Richmond take both Cumming and Robey after taking Lalor and Hotton last year

that is ALOT of similarities for one type of player (fwd/mid), when a team needs run (Grjl), kicking (Lindsay), or even defenders (X.Taylor), it would be silly imho to double dip on more of the same even if best available
This is a take who you think is the best draft.
Lalor is going to be more forward than midfield. Hotton gives them speed and is dual position.
There are still a lot of question marks on their other young midfielders.
If they think those blokes are the best two then you simply take them.

"while there has been late murmurs of interest in Jacob Farrow." That's an interesting element for Richmond. Suits them a lot as ball movement guy hasn't been what they've selected recently. Would certainly throw a wrench in the works.

I'm sure he takes his job seriously. I'm also sure there's a logical reason he didn't mention what time this evening his phantom draft would drop. 🙄

...and of course I realise there are many variables at play. I was being facetious.

Anyway Cals phantom works for me.
X Taylor. Attacking intercept half back who is 200% competitor.
Sharp. Addresses the gap that we used Setterfield for and has more to him than just inside midfielder. Big leadership tick.
Doveston. Need more good small forwards.
If we get Doveston then it is most likely we will not match HEA.
Maybe we match Sweid and leave a SSP spot open and if HEA gets through then he becomes Cat B.
Anyway two of X Taylor / Robey / Sharp / Cumming works for me.

I like Taylor and sharp also robey will go to Richmond … cumming or gryl I wouldn’t complain either

X.Taylor Sharp and Dovaston would bring some mongrel and competitiveness to help build a winning culture.

I'm sick opposition bullying and mocking, and the team going to water when it's too hard.

Sure they might not be the most exciting/X factor types but they would part of the long term foundation.

Taylor could even be the perfect foil for the opposition mid-forwards we wish we had.

I only wonder if we do take Dovaston, we would be locked into taking the Academy boys and they're all around the same 175cm size with Kako...

I think it would be a mistake to not match huss

What’s the scenario for us for pick 9 from Carlton? If Richmond bid in Dean would mean we would have to trade 21, 27 & 30. If no bid from tigers or us would 21 & whatever pick 27 is at the time be enough for pick 9? Not sure if blues do the deal if points just about the same?
Phantom draft isn't based on where he thinks players should go, it's based on what he's hearing.

I will say that Richmond run a tighter ship than most clubs, so there's more of a chance that this doesn't eventuate than his other top 10 picks.

But Cal almost never misses on early picks these days. He starts to have a much poorer strike rate after the teens.
Excuse intrusion:
Twomey has know idea who Richmond is choosing at pick 4. He placed Robey at 4 and Taylor at 5, so if it ends the other way around it doesn’t look like he’s missed by much. I think it’s all still up in the air as Richmond has not divulged in anyway whatsoever there likely picks.

I think Twomey may be grasping at straws.

At the end of the day, we will have two of Sharp, Cumming, Robey and X Taylor available for us. Any combination therein is a win IMO.

My preference would be Taylor, Robey, Sharp, Cumming in that order

let the richmond kid get to Richmond and the bombers kid get to the bombers.

I'm interested in Greeves late.
Greeves, NHH and Philippou all outside Cals top 30.
Greeves at that pick would be a steal. But will you have the draft capital if you’re trading for pick 9?
