How does the deficit work though if they are trading out all their future picks.

They have traded F1 already so can they go into deficit if a bid is in R1.

It seams ridiculous that you can trade all your future picks and go into deficit but then have nothing to pay that deficit next year??

Gold Coast will still hold Melbourne’s 2026 R2 pick after the proposed trades

I reckon Sharp or Grjl slide really close to our 3rd pick, can we not use 13 with our Saints F2 to get up the board a few places?
It’s possible. Hawks apparently open to moving back. What’s the price? Pickett linked to Giants and Roos. What are the Giants prepared to pay to move ahead? If not much who are the Hawks buyers?

My understanding though was that the deficit was applied to the future round the pick was placed.

I’m guessing this is just another instance of the AFL making up the rules as they go along

Cal saying Essendon might be in the same boat. That’s one team that wouldn’t want to move one or 2 spots down in the draft next year.

Briztoon is expert on deficit. If the bid comes in the first round, and the team does not have F1, then F2 picks are used, if not F2 then F3. Not sure if teams can use 2027 picks.

Not sure if Suns will trade 2026 or 2027 picks for 35, 48, 49.

At the moment, I believe Suns have 2 2nd and 2 3rd round picks in 2026.

You’re probably the best one to work out these situations but has Clarke potentially costed the Eagles an F2 by not creating another list spot with the picks we had.

With GWS trading 35 to the Suns for F2.

If we created the 6th list spot wouldn’t 41 and 53 be plenty of points to cover the expected Williams bid after they come in 10 or so spots once majority of the picks in the 20s are wiped. Plus after using those points it would automatically create another pick for us to match our other top 2 NGAs/FS or the 5th even potentially 6th draftee.

People have brought up extreme negative examples because people like yourself have made similar claims about CDT being useless.

Thats got nothing to do with what we asked, who in this thread was saying Sharp wasnt worth picking at pick 3 or 4, or if we traded 2 for 5+6 we shouldnt take Sharp?
That’s irrelevant because it was never discussed directly, but tell me if you thought a player would turn into Ben Hobbs or Will Phillips would you want him with pick 3/4/5/6?

still think we want Sharp at 13 if he slides which I don"t think will happen

any chance josh lindsay a chance around that 13 pick ?
Lindsay will be BPA at that pick, whilst he has a skill set we probably lack on our list, another half back would be a bit frustrating.

I know we done A LOT of work on Lindsay earlier in the year, like most top end teams, the interest cooled as the year went on.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we move down a few spots and take Barker or Phillipou

Keeping Cripps on the senior list was an objectively bad decision, there is no positive.

The best someone can come up with is "but we might have a spud on the list for two years instead of one" and well look that will make a nice change from having spuds stick around for 4 or 5 years or more 😩

Just a dumb call all round by the brand new team we brought in to stop making the dumb decisions of the old. Hopefully them all being at Essendon now will balance things out and work in our favour tomorrow 👀

Yeah that's it for me.

**** you wce for ruining my Wednesday. I'm not tuning into this crap. I am not an enabler

The happy clapping seals will never admit they are wrong. I mean look at Murphy Reid he won the rising star and we have some seals saying Bo is great success.

**** you wce for the following
1. Making me miss WCE biggest draft haul night OR Taking Dyson sharp but making me miss it because of me not tuning in
2. Dooming this club for the next five years.

This club is stuffed for the next five years. I look forward to the acrobatics when we finish bottom 4 for the next FIVE years and potentially Duursma and Harley leaving the club 2027 together to reduce the hate. I haven't included CDT because he's not going to be worth anything come his request for trade

I might tune in until the names get picked to see if they are Hail Mary trades. The last time I felt gloomy was preseason last year and turns out I was right when we won game. Best thing coming out of the trade and draft peroid is DEV.
Congrats on post of the year, legendary.

Duursma
CDT
Addinsal
Williams again.

Don’t take our 5th selection which will be interesting considering it will be in the 30s?

And for those who only wanted mids.

4. West Coast - Cooper Duff-Tytler
Calder Cannons/Vic Metro
RUC, 201cm

Duff-Tytler fits the unicorn prototype as a creative, athletic tall through the ruck or up forward. The Eagles have fallen in love with his upside as a midfielder in the Luke Jackson mould, though he figures to begin his career ahead of the ball.

Half backs with mid potential is so 2023. It’s now all about rucks with Mid potential.

You’d think so, but we’re already adding Dev and McCrae and the big picture here is the Eagles, not the Beagles.

Pick #1 in the rookie draft vs Schoenberg is a no brainer for me. Even if we’re not going best available at least have the best project tall developing.
I totally agree with you, but, the big picture is development.

If we look at what's supposed to happen that does happen at most clubs, one gets drafted and plys there trade in the VFL etc until they break into the AFL side. Part of that apprenticeship is learning to win and game structures.

With our pathetic WAFL, the kids aren't developing game sense and have been given opportunities before their time. Creating a more competitive WAFL side develops the fringe players to push for senior selection.

It will create more competition for spots which hopefully lifts the standard.

For me Schoenberg is the unnecessary one of the three.
