That’s why Adelaide vs Port should be in gather round
Oh - But Gather Round is the problem :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:
YOU HAVE THE EXACT SAME GAMES AT HOME AS US, WITH THE ADDED BENEFIT OF NOT TRAVELLING FOR THREE ARGUABLY FOUR OTHER GAMES

14 - Collingwood
13 - Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Richmond, St Kilda, West Coast, Western Bulldogs
12 - Fremantle, Melbourne, North Melbourne
11 - Brisbane, Hawthorn, Sydney
10 - Geelong
9 - Carlton, Gold Coast
8 - Essendon, Greater Western Sydney

7:40pm is too late to start a game of footy, imo. 7:10 was generally our latest start time in SA.

Rd8 crows v Port 7:40pm fri
Rd9 Port v dogs 7:40pm fri
Rd10 suns v Port 7:40pm fri
Rd13 wc v Port 7:45pm sat

Every one of the games that Port play on a Friday night are late and they're double headers.
Pretty ordinary if you ask me.
Lets not act like this is a new phenomenon

Rd 3 1997 - 8:10
Rd 9 1997 - 8:10
Rd 10 1997 - 8:10
Rd 11 1997 - 8:10
Rd 13 1997 - 8:10
Rd 16 1997 - 8:10
Rd 3 1998 - 8:10
Rd 6 1998 - 8:10
Rd 11 1998 - 8:10
Rd 13 1998 - 8:10
Rd 14 1998 - 8:10
Rd 7 1999 - 8:10
Rd 11 1999 - 8:10
Rd 5 2000 - 8:10
Rd 16 2000 - 8:10
Rd 9 2002 - 8:10
Rd 10 2003 - 7:40
Rd 5 2005 - 8:10
Rd 13 2005 - 8:10
Rd 20 2006 - 8:10
QF 2007 - 7:50
Rd 1 2008 - 8:15
Rd 20 2008 - 7:40
Rd 5 2009 - 7:45
Rd 15 2010 - 8:10
Rd 7 2011 - 8:10
Rd 5 2024 - 7:40
Rd 10 2025 - 7:40
Rd 22 2025 - 7:40
Rd 24 2025 - 7:40

I wonder how you took the Rd 17 1999 game away to Fremantle. 8:10pm start time which was 9:40 Adelaide Time.

ps. Dont try and point out the 12-23 gap with nothing. You just didn't play at home here. You had 14 away games 7:40 or later......

Perhaps they should volunteer to relocate. Makes sense.
There is a precedence
The Los Angeles Buccaneers. It was a team set up for the 1926 NFL season representing the west, but was based out of Chicago and never played a game in Los Angeles.

I wonder what Freo/West Coast fans would think if they relocated to Adelaide to reduce the burden on travel

WA fans will always complain about anything.

A WA team travels further to play an away game v Sydney than Collingwood do, this is not just geography it is unfair according to WA wowsers.

They deserve some special advantage over all other clubs to address geography.
To be fair EVERY team travels further than Collingwood do, that's why the unrest from 17 other team supporters,

Except Carlton this year.😁

The SUNS have two MCG games this season which is great. Usually just 1.
Got me thinking - whats the most they could possibly ever get in a season?
What is the most mcg games (regular season) any non Victorian team has ever had in one season?

To be fair, that again is geography and Melbourne clubs selling home games.

The Melbourne based teams who don't sell home games include Carl and Essendon.

Hawks are the Melbourne based team who sell the most, and travel the most.

Guess which Melbourne based team has been most successful, and which have been spectacularly shizen in 21st century...yep the team who travels the most has won 4 flags.

IF you want to be successful in the AFL, you want to be a club who isn't playing 17 games in Melbourne.

I thought that too but the soccer game is on Tuesday, how is it not available the weekend before if it's available the weekend after?

The NFL are coming to the MCG during the semi final weekend.
Apparently the AFC, while not as restrictive as FIFA, demand exclusive access to venues for a couple of weeks before and a week after matches.

Should add the the Melbourne based Marvel teams - StK, North and WB - to the table, as they would have similar numbers.

Teams that don't play home games at a ground don't play many games at a venue.

Why do they put the fixture out first? Brisbane should be getting more prime time slots than anyone, the broncos play mostly Friday nights. If they want to get the northern market exposure, they should wait until the nrl brings out their fixture and then see what they can do with the northern teams home games.

Stop the bullshit bye rounds as well
Why do people think that all the AFL needs to do is be seen in QLD to steal the market from NRL lol?

People who like Rugby will keep watching rugby, regardless of what days of the week the Brisbane Lions play. I don't watch rugby because Melbourne Storm gets a better prime time fixture than St Kilda does.

It doesn't work that way

They both came out within a day or two of each other & would likely have been finalised well before that given they were both teasing leaks a week earlier than that.

Broadly similar, and I may well have miscounted or made typos. I do that sort of thing.

Averages for 8 non-Vic teams : 1.92 games per team per year
Averages for 3 small Vic teams : 1.98 games per team per year

Remove Sydney and St Kilda as high outliers (perhaps not fair, given the low number of teams in the Vic sample)
Averages for remaining 7 non-Vic teams : 1.85 games per team per year
Averages for remaining 2 small Vic teams : 1.82 games per team per year

Obviously not all 2020 and 2021 games were actually played.

And the Saints also played a couple of home games each year at the G back in 2012-13, like they are doing this year.

If you only counted away games it would be even bleaker for the small Melbourne Marvel based teams.

Hawthorn are a smart side as a trip to Tassie is shorter than a bus trip to Geelong and they have made it a fortress winning 3/4' s of their games.
Hardly an arduous trip though but it certainly made them a Victorian success story.
Maybe Collingwood should travel more and I am sure WC/Freo would be happy to sell you some games😉

Much more time in the air though, not to mention sleeping in hotels and time away from home...

But yet they have made it a fortress, almost as if time in the air and sleeping in hotels aren't huge disadvantages.

Similar distance to that experienced by SA and NSW teams coming to Vic

Probably why those teams dominate the H&A ladder.

We are investigating play our Marvel "home" games on the Gold Coast.

No point playing at an unfamiliar ground.

90 000 Carlton fans turn up to the MCG to booo in unison as Judas Charlie Curnow takes his first shot at goal after a soft free kick against Weitering.. the spectacle and theatre would have been epic.. yet the AFL couldnt see the most obvious game to fixture in 2026 and have wasted it, and wont get the chance back.

Going to Launceston is definitely not a shorter trip than driving to Geelong. Hawthorn have also played at GMHBA whilst playing home matches at UTAS in the same season...

Only thing I can think of is did they do the draw way before trade week, the Curnow noise was very late obviously both clubs made it work, but I just wonder if that's the case.

I heard Carlton fans have already booked out the SCG for the game up there. The die hards have booked two tickets each, behind the goals at both ends so they can switch seats every quarter.

Actually it is shorter to tassie.
1 hour and 14 minutes by plane and depending on time of day, 1 hour and 48 minutes to Geelong by bus. Can be shorter in morning and even longer late arvo.

You still have to get to the airport and wait at both ends.

Still have to get to the bus station and off the other end.

Come on it's less time to get to a bus stop. It's an hour before a flight at least. Anything inside a state is always shorter in the end. Give me a bus over having to catch a flight, the recovery is a factor too, you sleep in your own bed after the game in Geelong
