Not sure any of them should be upgraded. Maybe McAndrew as ruck depth but he can still be that as a rookie.

Cal Twomey has literally tweeted that more rookie elevations can happen after the draft. That's how it's going to happen. We take two, upgrade a rookie, take Welsh in the rookie draft and have an extra rookie spot either for SSP or mid-season draft. Ah Chee joins in the PSD. Everyone is happy.

That's a good point - doing a rookie upgrade frees up an extra position on our rookie list, which we could then use to pre-select Stevens ahead of the RD (if he isn't selected in the ND) or sign a player in the SSP.

Every team is trying to minimise their exposure to this year's draft, which is seen as one of the weakest in a long time (probably since the horrible 2020 draft class).

Yep. There's an interesting article on the 2020 COVID Draft on the ABC website today:

Five years on from that draft, only 3 players have made the AA squad of 40 players - Thilthorpe, Gulden and Holmes. In comparison, 11 players from 2019 and 5 from the 2021 draft have achieved that mark.

Adelaide have done very very well with Thilthorpe. Most clubs ended up with a load of potatoes.

I don't think I'd do well as an Ammo against a very-recently-professional full time AFL player.

Didn't Brent Harvey have a game or two right after retirement with absolutely ridonculous stats? Like 50+ possies and 5 goals? It's like having extra players out there.

There will likely be better options than Stevens for a rookie spot. Honestly, if Stevens wasn't father son, not sure he'd be getting much of a mention. (Yes, I know he got a State invite)

Sounds like there will only be 40 odd live selections + rookie upgrades in this main draft.

No mention in any phantom mail for guys like Dahlitz, Bamert, Taj Murray, Burton, Sam Ainsworth, Jack Cook, Elliot Duffield, do players like Roberts-Thomson or BOB get through to Rookie with so few live selections??... the list could go on. Definitely some very handy players are going to miss main draft selection, personally I would have Stevens behind guys like these.

Burmeister could get a rookie gig now he's been mentioned?

I don't know where this Burmeister talk is coming from, I've watched almost every game he's played the last 3 years and IMO he didn't progress at all this year as an overager, still drops way way too many overhead marks he should take with his height advantage and still miss times his leap in the ruck. Very athletic and a prodigious leap but his footballing just hasn't come on as many had hoped.

Dahlitz and BOB in particular are elite users by foot and BOB actually reminds me of Luke Parker, so I’m personally amazed that we would be trading out 46 this year for an F3 from GC, which will probably be about 60.

Unless we have lined up someone like Hollands to join our SANFL program, with a view to upgrade him if he meets certain standards, then I really can’t see why we wouldn’t use all 3 list spots in this draft.

Carlton x 2, Hawthorn, GC, GWS and Brisbane have all indicated they would like to trade their 1sts out of this year. I’ve never seen a buyers market like this and instead we are apparently actually planning on trading out our second pick this year for a F3.

I wonder if we’ll try and trade up if Barker is still there in the 25-35 range?

If his knee is recovering well he could be a bargain buy, with the bonus of us being able to give him plenty of time to recover into next season.

We will have a fair idea of what that pick will be at the start of night 2 because of the bids that will have already come on night 1 so will be in a decent position to wheel and deal with our F2 and that pick if we wanted
