Matthew Clarke on Gettable 17/11

Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

There's plenty of vision of Duursma. He's going to be a decent player. I just don't know if it will be as a mid at AFL level. I see a lot of parallels with Ginbey who we tried as a mid before he dominated in a position he was more suited to.
Nothing like Ginbey who played mostly as a backline player down here at juniors.

Played limited midfield. Late to midfield.

Duursma has played plenty of mid.across different leagues.

I have it on rock solid authority that we will trade pick 1 with Essendon and lock in CDT with pick 2 and Farrow with our second pick. We also plan on trading down pick 13 a few spots to nab Cody Curtin.

Make of it what you will.

I make of that your ‘rock solid authority’ is full of the proverbial and I feel embarrassed for you for passing this tripe on

Um ok mate.
His midfield playing style is completely like yeo.

He's not going to be asked to be an overlapping half back.
His style might be but Yeo is bigger, Stronger and far more explosive.

If we want Sharp to learn from some one Matt Priddis is the man to teach him to get the most from his limitations.

Most of their balls haven’t even dropped, bit harsh to lump them in the shit category already
Didn't call them shit, but there's not too many you could say are actually good AFL midfielders at this stage. There's a hell of a lot of unrealised potential but I don't think we can bank on all these later draft picks turning into guns, the reality is they won't all make it.

how come in that phantom draft we dont have 13?

Slides back to 19 due to bids on Uwland, Dean, Patterson, Annable, Kyle and Murray

If Gold Coast match our Addinsall bid it’ll become pick 20

how come in that phantom draft we dont have 13?

Pick 2 - Uwland, GC Academy
Pick 3 - Dean, Carlton father son
Pick 5 - Patterson, GC Academy
Pick 6 - Annabell, Lions Academy
Pick 16 - Kyle, Swans Academy
Pick 18 - Murray, GC Academy

That's why pick 13 became pick 19

What do you leave out for Clarke on Draftmas Eve?

If we still had ROB we'd leave out some party pies with a glass of spearmint milk and a Moro bar for whatever animal pulls his sled.

If Farrow does look like lasting to the Dees picks, im still really keen on trading up for him.

Id pay 13(addinsall)+ our f2 for the Farrow pick.

I wonder if the Dees interest is at least partially due to wanting us to offer something? They would still be able to get Grlj at 8 and Nairn at 13 more than likely if they traded the Farrow pick.

Well. He's from Melbourne, so based on the current social climate there you'd be best served leaving out your machetes.

Or putting them in the disposal bins like a responsible, law-abiding citizen.

Mongrel Punt phantom has Grlj sliding to our pick after first bidding on Murray

Grlj slides courtesy of Hawthorn taking Lindsay which is a departure from most phantoms. North (Dovaston) and GWS (Taylor) also overlook Grlj. Essendon he had taking Pickett which is why North go Dovaston

A clean kicking left footer off half back does have Mitchell vibes so it’s not totally unrealistic

Pick 19: West Coast – Sam Grlj, Midfield, Oakleigh, 182cm

West Coast are reportedly desperate to land Jacob Farrow with the third pick of the night , and don’t rule out an actual trade on draft night to move up the board to get their man. There’s no trades here however, but the Eagles wouldn’t care here because Sam Grlj (who went #10 in my first mock draft) is incredible value.

Sam Grlj would be the speedy complement to the strength that is Harley Reid. A runner who can break teams apart with his running speed and endurance, a strong combine where he showcased his athletic potential has made him a true top 10 contender in this draft class. If he has the ball and wide open space in front of him, watch out.

No it isn’t, Yeo is a much more unique profile than you and a lot of people give him credit for, he’s the prototype for what a lot of teams crave. Yeo’s aerial ability + power, burst and explosiveness is something Sharp will never come close to matching.

This doesn’t mean Sharp can’t learn some things of Yeo, but he’d be much better watching guys like Dunkley and learning how he goes about his two way play.

Id take Grlj as an alternate to Farrow if we cant trade up, would be a great get, super value.

Sounds like a great fit for our list

I agree about yeos explosiveness.
To get the best junior mid to learn from yeo and compliment his own skills is an opportunity we shouldn't pass up.

I cant think of another mid who plays like Yeo.

190cm+, super agile, explosive with brute strength to force his way out of congestion, decent marking/aerial prowess, clearance beast, etc.
Most of the other strong/explosive inside mids dont have the agility of Yeo, and the agile ones arent as big or strong as Yeo.
Its a unique combo.

Sharp doesnt have the athletic traits of Yeo at all, theyre not even close to the same player
