I'm hoping tomorrow Duursma and Duff-Tytler is going to be our Rowell, Anderson / Franklin, Roughead draft that propels us towards our next flag. I believe Duursma is a lock to be a gun in the mould of Goddard/Bont and while Duff-Tytler carries more risk he could be a scary proposition if it all comes together. The club has done the right thing in holding picks 1 & 2 and tomorrow for the first time in a long time, we will have 3 players on our list with superstar potential.

Yeah of course, maybe all of them will come good but that seems unlikely and it would be a bit foolish to just bank on them all turning out to be guns and not keep trying to get better players in the middle

We hit pay dirt last MSD with McCarthy.

Just need to keep filtering through the kids as well as semi mature types that help fill short term gaps.

And out of every 10 or 20 we land a keeper.

I like the look of Brock. Cost nothing and has modern athletic traits as a defender who can defend l, create trurnovers plus intercept.

Hutch I also see being a solid role player, again with very good running power.

Dev will be a cheap defensive inside mid.

Which leaves picks to use on quality.

I cant think of another mid who plays like Yeo.

190cm+, super agile, explosive with brute strength to force his way out of congestion, decent marking/aerial prowess, clearance beast, etc.
Most of the other strong/explosive inside mids dont have the agility of Yeo, and the agile ones arent as big or strong as Yeo.
Its a unique combo.

Sharp doesnt have the athletic traits of Yeo at all, theyre not even close to the same player
Some people don’t know what they were watching, I am so sad his prime was cut short because he was on the cusp of solidifying himself as a top 5-10 player in the competition. His impact per possession was crazy good and he was just a devastating force in the middle both ways.

Few guys from his era have ever looked better on a footy field than Yeoy bursting from a stoppage.

Yeah still don’t understand why we didn’t do 13,34 and no bid on Dean for 9. If Sharp gets to that pick boy oh boy.
I’m sure these conversations do happen but the state sanctioned answer is you can’t trade in favours and colluding on bids. The other deals are better than ours if you take that off the table, so might be hard to justify why they did one not the other.

As I say, that’s all very polished and by the book because everyone surely accepts these convos are happening.

Interesting that it all seems safely assumed that Walley won't attract a bid but just read this in the above article:

Walley has attracted interest from Victorian clubs, including Carlton, Collingwood, Geelong and Richmond, completing follow-up meetings with some of them on the eve of the draft.

I think there’s still a strong argument to only slide 4 places from 9 to 13 and continue to points farm, could have included a swap of 41 and 54 too.

Perhaps we end up with 5 and 9 for 2 and everyone wins.

Its crazy how so many of our genuine stars from the 2018 era had their careers ruined or severely impacted by injury.

Gov potentially missed 4 AAs- he got 5, in the 5 mostly full seasons he played missing most of 4 years there in the middle. The record is 9, only 4 players have gotten 8+.
Yeo missed having his name up there with the Dustin Martins/Dnagerfields/Fyfes.
Kennedy is up there but the fact there is debate about who is better Hawkins/Riewoldt/Kennedy is criminal

Even though I was devout Sharp truth-er up until about a month ago, even I would never have compared Sharp to Yeo. Sharp would be lucky to reach Dunkley's level at what he does, which is both a lower level and a far less valuable role than Yeo. Sharp's appeal was and still is his floor, it's never been his ceiling, and thats why he's not a pick 2 calibre player

Do you actually think Sharp is similar to Yeo?

Theyre completely different players bro. Yeo is closer to Dangerfield/Harley. Sharp is closer to Dunkley/Redden
Obviously they are not completely alike...
But Yeo is our version of an elite stoppage player.
I feel that we desperately need another one... Even more so than athletic talls.
Sharp is a player you can build your side around... With his skills and leadership and ability to make our Harleys and hewetts better.
Even at pick 2 he would be my pick

We should’ve had a dynasty and I’ll never waver from that opinion, All Australian calibre players in every area of the ground with lots of handy role guys and a strong home ground advantage. That 2019 Hawks loss in the final round to cost us top 4 + Willie’s stupidity cost us a chance at back to back and it was all downhill from there.

100%, we had the best list in the comp at the time, a real shame
