Both still very good players with great careers but neither is pick 2 worthy, not even close.

Would you give up on Luke Jackson to drop back in the order to pick up Jack Redden, if they were in the same draft?

Of course, there's no guarantee any of these blokes will end up like their player comparisons but that's essentially the choice in front of the recruiters right now.

I don't think you'd find a recruiter for a club in the entire country who'd do that.

It’s pretty logical to say so though. One’s archetype is being phased out of the game unless a player has multiple weapons or elite athleticism, while the other will always be valuable as an elite athlete at 200+ cm

Having most of his season and his athleticism wiped out due to injury doesn’t put him in the Chesser or Jamieson category

Sharp has never played AFL.

Jack Graham won the Larke medal as a midfielder and is an endurance beast. Still ended up going in the 50s and has to carve out a niche as a HFF who rotated mid because athletically, he gets outclassed by better players in the AFL, despite being an excellent two-way runner.

Jack Redden is bigger than Sharp, played 263 games and won a flag. If Sharp gets anywhere near Redden's record, he'll have had a great career.

If Sharp were consistently dominating SANFL this year, I'd be a lot more confident in his ability to translate his game to AFL but whilst he was good, he wasn't a standout. Cumming was better prior to injury. Cumming also plays a more contested game than Sharp, which was actually a mild criticism of his because his contested to uncontested ratio favours contested ball, whereas Sharp is more even.

Nobody's actually dissing Sharp but there's a reason he's expected to go at 10 in the draft tomorrow.

I don't know why we are wasting our time with Schoenberg & Robertson, they'll end up the the other cast off's we've had in recent years like Witherden, Hunt.

For a bit of experience, to take some of the hits and heat while the young guys grow

those aren’t weapons though, defensive work and contested ball winning are non negotiable at the peak of the game, look at a Brisbane. It’s great to be elite at those things, every team needs a guy like that (adding to my point being you used to need more than 1), but find me the examples of guys in the same mould that don’t have elite traits that can be used going forward. Rowell has elite athleticism, that’s why the Dunkley comparison is apt. Sharp isn’t as good of a kick and if a team sits off and says alright Dyson you beat us yourself, he won’t be able to do it at the top level in my opinion to the same degree a guy like Dunkley who’s just Sharp with marginally better athleticism and a better kick
