People are underrating redden
Dude was second in our B&F and player of the finals in a premiership year
Sharp having a career like redden would be a good result. He COULD be better, but just assuming he will be is fraught with peril imo
The problem is lumping Redden and Graham together. Redden was far better.

No draftee comes with a guarantee.Posters saying Sharp didn’t dominate SANFL is cringeworthy.Hes a kid!
We take who we take and
once we pick ‘em it’s too late to whine!
We just get on with supporting the club

A lot of you folks would do well to incorporate “I think” or “at this stage” when posting about these teenagers, lest you look pretty foolish in a few years time.

Gday to Arlo Draper if you’re reading this on lunch break from your nightfill job.

Thank Christ this thread will be closed soon.
Whats the situation with arlo draper? Haven’t been keeping up with board regularly

I like Sharp, but I like like CDT on potential. More likely to be a game changer at the top level with high ceiling imo. Sharp a sure thing but might turn out a bit vanilla with impeccable leadership traits. CDT giving off unicorn vibes and with Duursma very close to a sure thing with a high ceiling to match I say we take the punt and take the best two prospects in Duffma

Also lol at clumping him in with Jack Graham. The only thing comparable between the two is their defensive side. Redden actually could inside/outside and had no issues finding the ball and using it well.

I’d say that to be an inside mid in a flag side you have to be able to win your own ball, run both ways and tackle to at least AFL standard. There will always be exceptions to the rule but I think that would be the floor not including any elite AFL traits that they pretty much all have that Sharp doesn’t.

The crux is what you’re getting at pick 2, which is the sort of pick where you are at least drafting for elite weapons even if you’re not drafting for BPA or highest ceiling
What particular AFL traits do Tom Green or Patrick Cripps have that Sharp doesn’t, other than being a bit bigger.

2026

Small forward (Owies / Champion / Walley)
Full forward (Shanahan)
Resting tall (A Reid / J Williams / B Williams / CDT)

Link-up HFF (Cripps / Newton / Dewar / Hutchinson: these are all players who have played up the ground at some point)
CHF (Waterman)
Fwd-mid rotation (Hewett / Kelly / H Reid / Duursma / Graham / Davis / Gross)

One of the above as a 7th forward

The Owies / Champion / Walley spot worries me, which is why I'm hoping McGlade and Farmer turn out well.

I do agree that Cripps / Newton / Dewar / Hutchinson also look shaky, and when Cripps retires this is solved only by someone getting better than they are now, or a midfielder becoming a permanent link-up HFF. Maybe Hamish Davis is worth a try here rather than as a mid/wing.
The whole lot makes me nervous. Not much there.

Land of the giants is coming back
Yeah but CDT is different. He's a smooth mover, looks more like a HF Mid with his reflexes and agility and he seems to get it off the deck like a bloke 10cm shorter. Pretty rare combination. I'm an optomist though and would rather take a shot on raw talent than take a safe pick in a flat draft. Same with our later picks. Draft the talent and potential, not the U18s data.

There are a lot of players who if you added 7cm and 10kgs without decreasing other attributes would be in GOAT discussions.

A futile exercise if I’ve ever seen one.
188cm is easily tall enough to utilise strength in combination with those attributes.

There’s levels to strength though, Cripps is one of the strongest players in the entire league. If he was 188cms and less strong he wouldn’t be nearly as effective.

If you want me to agree with you than yes, if you take away Cripps biggest POD and the primary reason he is as good as he is, him and Sharp have similar traits.
