Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

Its crazy how so many of our genuine stars from the 2018 era had their careers ruined or severely impacted by injury.

Gov potentially missed 4 AAs- he got 5, in the 5 mostly full seasons he played missing most of 4 years there in the middle. The record is 9, only 4 players have gotten 8+.
Yeo missed having his name up there with the Dustin Martins/Dnagerfields/Fyfes.
Kennedy is up there but the fact there is debate about who is better Hawkins/Riewoldt/Kennedy is criminal
NicNat for obvious reasons

Hey.....but remember this was all the clubs doing according to the media nuffies with their axe to grind.

People are underrating redden
Dude was second in our B&F and player of the finals in a premiership year
Sharp having a career like redden would be a good result. He COULD be better, but just assuming he will be is fraught with peril imo
Redden was a wonderful player and if Sharp could be as good, it'd be a massive success for him.

It's jus that Redden wasn't worth pick 2.

Duursma - genuinely excited about him, think he'll be a gun and while the Bont is a best case scenario, even if he doesn't get there and "only" ends up a Goddard level player, that is an awesome player and a worthy number 1.

CDT - i've made it clear i'd rather trade down and get Sharp plus bank assets, but also think CDT could be a very valuable player in time so won't be melting. His athletic profile is unique and exciting.

Addinsall - haven't seen any of him, but if the club is actually going to pull off the strategy of burning GC so they can't match, I'll be impressed, and hope for the best.

Williams - matching makes sense, given he'll cost less than what the bid comes in at, and not guarantee that if we don't match we'll be able to pick up a better player ~10 picks later when our next pick actually comes up.

The above still leaves us looking for one more gun mid in 2026. What is the top 3 of the open pool looking like? Is there a gun mid there? If we add them, then Warner the next year. We should have the framework of a very good young team.

Give Bo Allan a few years. Powerful athlete and underrated by some on here.

Comparable in every combine result to Yeo. (First links I found of their results: Yeo & Bo Allan)

He also pivots and drives his legs powerfully in a beeline to goal similar to Yeo as a CBD mid.

Called it in August last year, and I think people will be pleasantly surprised after a couple more preseasons.
Underrated by all on here

I'll be low key stunned if our picks mirror the consensus from the pundits. I just find it hard to believe we're that predictable ever.
The consensus us most likely to be right for early picks, so i think 1 and 2 and locked in, baring a later Essendon overpay for 2.

It's the later picks (10+) where it gets funny (and Cal usually hits his top 10 pretty much 100% before it all goes to rubbish in his phantoms), and where we've traditionally drafted, which is why we do have unusual outcomes in the past.

Literally everyone is just copying Cal at this point. Gives them the best chance to say they were also right

The crux is what you’re getting at pick 2, which is the sort of pick where you are at least drafting for elite weapons even if you’re not drafting for BPA or highest ceiling
Unfortunately at pick two the "elite weapons" are largely academy tied, leaving us with CDT, Cumming, Robey, Taylor or Sharp.

What order would you rate these players?

Twomey accuracy might be a bit lower this year. Draft is very flat and clubs might be looking at unexpected sliders as a bolter comes into the mix mid first round.

We'll be lucky for Williams to not attract a bid before our 3rd pick at this rate.

The Addinsal to WC thing has been repeated in almost every mock I’ve seen since Twomey posted it. It’s just blatant

Twomey had us taking Murphy Reid last year btw
He did say we would take Bo if was there a lot but he did say that was very unlikely.

Addinsall info would 100% becoming from the Suns to his family and media.

I'm bottling this up and will release it when we win the 2030 flag. Eagles always fall off a cliff and rise back from the ashes.

The biggest surprise with the Addinsall link isn’t so much that we’re being predicted to lodge a bid, but the virtual automatic assumption Gold Coast won’t match. They’re clearly getting some trades done for picks later in the draft to generate extra points and you wonder why they’d be bothering if it wasn’t to get themselves in a position to match

There’s almost no what ifs on who we pick if the Suns do match which imo is more likely than unlikely

I’m going on record as saying I don’t really care who we draft. We’re bringing in top level young talent regardless of which way we go on top of some promising developing young players already on our list.

Outside of the decision not to rookie list Cripps it finally feels like the ship is turning and I believe in mini and his assessment of the game.
