Canterbury spent 9/10 years in division 3 with their Reserves only playing finals once in 10 years.
To win a flag then be demoted off the back of beating everyone in the division last year except Old Yarra, would be a kick in the guts.
St Mary's should feel very disappointed not having the chance to have a crack at taking the club to premier football.
Whitefriars probably the lucky winners out of this being 2 points ahead of Canterbury on the ladder.
This obviously caused by the whole St John's leaving as well.
Interesting to see what the clubs vote.

It can set clubs back years. They got a hard earned promotion and now get complacent and could lose. You never know they could jump through the divisions every year until Prem, Now they won’t get to even try that.Personally think competitive football is the priority not too fussed about the divisions which will sort themselves out in the long run you'd hope. If any of these clubs are gonna make the leap from div 1 to prem c then it'll happen regardless.
It's not like in paid leagues where you can attract better talent when you go up a division.
Pretty sure Canterbury took the easy option up a few years ago and chose not to go up and then won the premiership ((and Wattle Park chose to go/stay up). Surely Canterbury will request to stay up in Divvy 2.Pretty big kick in the guts to Canterbury and PH. Canterbury were competitive this year and now back to D3.
Shambles.

That is correct, I thought it was pretty weak at the time also.Canterbury? I am sure they chose not to go up to D2 when given the chance a few years ago,

Having said that, I'd consider Canterbury very stiff to be put into D3 after what was a more than competitive season in D2.

It's hard enough getting out of the bottom sections as it is but to knock back promotion up a grade was a poor choice I thought.

SMS & Powerhouse both won flags this year so should be promoted up a grade IMO, the runners up can stay down.Won them a flag (they did win it from 4/5th didnt they?) so i doubt they care. SMS finished 2nd last in 2023 and were saved from D3 by a league restructure. Cant win em all.

Canterbury weren't in the bottom 2 so should 100% stay in D2, you can't re-write the rules after a season has been completed, they literally get relegated for what reason?
The VAFA need to stop pandering to these clubs that will never get their acts together to the detriment of clubs trying to move up the grades.
Canterbury picked up some solid recruits this season in the hope on not only staying up but maybe playing finals, how do you sell this to any new recruits now?
I respectfully disagree, I'd rather my club have ambitions rather than staying in the lower divisions and beating up on teams. As a recruit you'd rather be in the lower grade, better chance of a flag, not like you are playing for anything else ($$$$$?) but canterbury can ask to stay in D2 if they like, and probably finish 6th-8th
Shut it muppet i have a lot of contacts in all leagues. Why would i go near him.Is it coincidence that you follow old mate Nepo around
Why else would you be playing, just to compete year after year bludging in the same division.I respectfully disagree, I'd rather my club have ambitions rather than staying in the lower divisions and beating up on teams.

Richmond love 2s flags and big bags against teams fielding 15 blokesTo win two's flags
They will get smashed next season in that division, could be worse than Box Hill to be honest. I have a mate that plays there, lots of retirements and guys not playing.Richmond love 2s flags and big bags against teams fielding 15 blokes
I think this is a fair point which I agree with, what does it say to players when you want to stay low. On the other hand, players might enjoy an easy flagI respectfully disagree, I'd rather my club have ambitions rather than staying in the lower divisions and beating up on teams.
No one enjoys easy flags. What will it be next year ? 1 up or 2? it will stuff around with the divisions.I think this is a fair point which I agree with, what does it say to players when you want to stay low. On the other hand, players might enjoy an easy flag

They are in the top division. FFSAsk Heidelberg, going off last few years I think they do.
