Suns are 100% matching a bid on Addinsall

Not sure what benefit the Dogs get out of that trade

The picks between 29 and 33 will be Carlton, Sydney, Sydney which will all disappear in bid matches so 33 would become 29 anyway

And they give up 53

Smart trade by the Suns though
14 with be used in points meaning Dogs holding 15 becomes 14. So the deal is really 33+53 for 29

Tactical bidding sounds like it works until you take it to far and end up with the bloke you didn't really want.
Thats the problem with using a bidding system to establish fair value for an academy/FS draftee at the pointy end of the draft. Do clubs really want to risk a high draft pick on a player who has been in another clubs academy for 5 years or whatever already and are emotionally attached to that club? And who therefore will pose a very high flight risk.

Just pick Josh Lindsay at 13 so the happy clappers spin around and proclaim CDT and Duursma are both mid and we have enough now. Also I want Lindsay

I dont want a D rated mid to cover for our indept decisions

If/when our Addinsall bid is matched I wonder if we trade back with Geelong, or maybe even Fremantle for a F2

Bulldogs would likely be Lindsay if he’s there and Adelaide look keen on Marsh so Geelong might want to get ahead of the Dogs to get Lindsay

We can then look at Barker/Thredgold/NHH at the Geelong pick

Then if Fremantle bid on Williams, we should look at trading down from wherever 34 is (probably around 28) to a pick in the 40’s that will give us enough points in conjunction with 41 (would be around 34/35) - Collingwood might be a candidate if there’s someone they like in that range and another F2 would be thereabouts for that trade as well

Sit back on night two and wait for a Banfield/Evans bid to match as a 5th selection or add them both as rookies of no bid comes without using a 5th pick.

Take pick 1 in the RD or add Walley to round out our list

And we have 4x R2 picks in 2026

What am I missing? The draft simulator has GCS losing 18pts with that trade?

Pick 53 will come in by about 6 places by the time it needs to be used to match a bid so it’s value improves as the draft progresses

One of the mooted changes to bid matching next year is clubs being prevented from trading one pick into multiples once the draft starts. They stopped clubs stockpiling picks for non-existent list spots predraft but left the door open once it started

It will limit clubs from farming points like we’re seeing with these trades

Even after those trades if we bid on Zeke and Patterson with 2&3, GCS will be in deficit of 500+ points if they match Addinsall and the rest of the draft goes as Twomey expects. Just means we need to bid on Patterson if we are keen on Addinsall. I don't know why we wouldn't

Still seems ridiculous that 53 is valuable enough to make a trade like this. Throwaway pick for the Dogs but is going to be used to acquire a top 15 prospect.

As bids are matched the picks Gold Coast hold progressively move up the order which increases their value.

The value they are now will be higher at the time they’re required to match the Murray and Addinsall bids

This was always going to happen which is why I was curious all the mocks had the Suns not matching. Always thought they would

Would be funny if we aren't really even that interested in Addinsall and GC are scrambling for nothing. Probably unlikely so I guess we made our interest too obvious to GC (still funny it seems to have only started following CT's mock..)
