I finally started to build one of my Lego Game Boy's

I abandoned it after 2 bags - not enough natural lighting (weather wasn't necessarily ferocious, but it sure got dark when I was building between 11-12:30. I didn't want to shut the curtains and turn a light on just to continue, so I'll resume the build next week lol).

Overall really enjoyed it and will do it again 2 more times soon lol :p
Had a few WTF moments where some of it didn't "sit" in place, I didn't realise that it was normal as the later steps give the platform (eg: the d-pad) the foundation to not fall out

That looks fun. I will have to get one.

Someone did a comparison with a real Gameboy and the dimensions and placement of buttons etc was almost exact. And the price is reasonable too.

It shows that Lego is still capable of excellent value, just for these premium sets worth many hundreds of dollars they have decided to make us pay a lot more than we probably should.

I'm finding I'm enjoying the smaller sets more now, as the larger ones just get out of reach. I quite like the aquarium, but I would have baulked at $500, let alone $700. There are still some gems sub $100, of which the Game Boy is king. Have seen it down to $69 at some places.

It's also not an exclusive. I checked the website when it was released and it was already on back order, then picked one up at Big W doing my shopping the next day for $80 I think it was.

Some decent discounts at amazon who have kicked-off Black Friday early. Lego.com will have Insiders Weekend this Saturday and Sunday, which will feature three GWPs at varying thresholds as well as yet-to-be-announced discounts on certain sets. I'd assume the Certified Stores will have something similar. Keep an eye on jaysbrickblog.com for the details.

EDIT : Stores have just teased "three days of deals" for this coming weekend.
